How Fast am I?
NWN2 does not give you access to enough of your charicters stats. One of them being speed. The average Human is supposed to be able to go 30 ft. I'm assuming that's 30 ft per round, but I haven't been able to find any documentation on this. A Grey Orc moves at 40 ft. From what I can tell, a Monk maxes out his bonus speed at +50 ft.
For SoZ I have a Grey Orc who is a Monk(20)-Cleric(2)-SacredFist(8). I took the Travel Domain, and the Dash Feet. Based on my calculations this means that once I get the Team Rush Teamwork Benefit every member of my group should be moving at 40+50+15%, or 103.5 feet per round, which is nearly 3.5 times as fast as the averag human. Now, when I haste my group, every one should be going moving at 40+50+115%, or 193.5 feet per round, which is nearly 6.5 times as fast as the average human.
While I haven't found any monster in the game to be as fast as me, it doesn't seem like my party members are moving that much faster than every one else. Does any one know what equations the game uses to determine the players speed? Does any one know of way to force the game to show you how fast you are moving?
Ps... I would strongly recomend this charictor build for any one planning on playing SoZ. It is very nice to have the ability to run circles around your enemies.

Where do you get that from?Ripuanewhole wrote:From what I can tell, a Monk maxes out his bonus speed at +50 ft.
Monk speed increases by 10 feet every 3 levels, so at level 30 monk you'd have 100ft. extra speed. At 20th level it would be 60 ft.

Speed bonuses *seemed* bugged in the game. The Team Rush *is* bugged, and it also may not calculate the bonus as you would.
A few things:
1. Level 30 character in SOZ.. Don't think so.
2. Team Rush + Haste doesn't always haste all your party members.
3. The Sacred Fist's speed bonus is a Monk continuation bonus IF that character is also a Monk with 3+ levels. It does not "stack" - at least not in the manner most think.
4. Yes, the max is 50 ft per round for any Monk/Sacred Fist (..see #3), based on the class(es) speed bonus - unarmored. You'll still get a speed bonus armored as a Sacred Fist, but only for the Sacred Fist "speed" interval levels.
So lets go through the calculation ..
10 ft bonus for the Grey Orc
5 ft bonus for the Dash feat
10 ft bonus for the Travel domain
50 ft bonus for the net level 18 "Monk" (unarmored)
75 + 30 = 105 vs. 30 (Human std.) is slightly more than triple the speed. THEN add your Haste effect of 50% increase (1/2 of 105 = about 52 feet additional speed increase). (Expeditious Retreat = 150% increase in speed, and Storm Avatar = 200% increase in speed though none of them work in combination with the other.)

You would get the speed of a 28th level monk if in light armor or less. Travel, Grey Orc, Dash, and monk speed may or may not stack.

Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

You know, #3 doesn't explain why he doesn't get his 60 ft. speed bonus, or why it's capped at 50 ft.
His monk speed at level 18 through 20 would still be 60 ft, not 50.
@ Claudius: He wouldn't get the speed bonus from the monk class while in light armor. He'd only get full speed bonus if in robes.
Edit: Given that everything that should, stacks, your speed would be
40 from race
60 from monk
30 from sacred fist
10 from travel domain
5 from dash feat
= 145 ft.

Fiberfar its not implemented that way. You also get Wis to AC in chain shirt if SF. And for that matter you get greater flurry in Platemail and Tower shield.

So nwn2 wiki doesn't agree with NWN2, great.
They've managed to screw up this class more than anything else in the game it seems. I knew they'd done some changes all over, but this is how it is supposed to be Monk :: d20srd.org

Yes but reality is different from the monk description.
a monk 28 Cl 1 SF1* is very fast in chain shirt
download a trainer and see for yourself!
* might be able to make a good EDM monk build wearing armor (greater flurry works for SF in Platemail) with a few cleric tricks like living undeath. Maybe Monk 20 Cl 1 SF2 WM 7 (quarterstaves) (Edit: unfortunately no unarmed WM and the - 8 penalty would cripple the quarterstaver.. Low dex in robes would cripple a monk EDMer)

Actually it *could* agree - it just depends on how you interpret the descriptions. Note that these descriptions were pulled from the NWN2 manuals which are often poorly written, and sometimes just plain wrong.Fiberfar wrote:"Fast movementAt 3rd level, a monk gains an enhancement bonus to her speed. A monk in armor (even light armor) loses this extra speed. "

The max is still 50 for the Monk or Sacred Fist (or any combination). What you specifically DON'T get is Sacred Fist *+* Monk speed that extends beyond 50. (..so "stacking" isn't necessarily "stacking" .)
It appears though that the while the Sacred Fist technically should be limited to a max of 30 WITH ARMOR, that instead you interpret this statement:
"If the sacred fist also has monk levels then the levels stack for the purpose of determining the speed bonus."
..to include Monk speed bonuses WITH ARMOR (..i.e. with armor and the appropriate Monk levels in addition to a Sacred Fist level you get the ability to wear armor and still have Monk Speed up to the max of 50).
Note also that while you can have a high "speed" rate, that at short distances the speed can still appear slow. Increase the distance however and the character with a much higher speed rate seems much faster than the slower character. Improving Initiative *might* improve the "speed" at short distances for a faster character.
....
There are classes a LOT more screwed-up than the Monk from Pn'P to NWN2 transition. ..and I still think the parry system (never part of the Pn'P version), is the most screwed up mechanical aspect of the game.

A 20th level monk *should* still get 60 ft. speed bonus.
Anyways, seems I got all of the above wrong, so I'll leave it at that.
(we should make a "the things obsidian screwed up" thread )

Thanks for the input. It would really be nice if obsidian would include some useful information in their game manuals like the mathmatical equations. Wtihout it, I find myself using the trial and error method in order to figure out the best combinations.
Here's another thing to add to "the things obsidian screwed up" thread... Why are the races so restrictive on preferred class? For example, since when is a Wizard the Drow Female's preffered class? Drow Males should have a preferred class of either Wizard or Fighter. The other races, while not quite as obvious, should have a few more options. It would make my quest for the most powerful charcter way more fun.

Well nowadays every build should be a yuan ti unless its too much xp penalty...
