Two questions: Can't have two NPCs on team anymore + How to get into Sierra army depo

Post by Kjutte »

Ok, so I used to have 4 in charisma, now I have 3, and marcus\vic can't join up anymore. How does cha drop? Can I get the point back somehow?

Spoiler here:

Also, I am at Sierra army depot. The walkthrough says I have to enter the bunker, but the damn bunker is locked, and I cannot lockpick it. What to do?

Thanks in advance!

For charisma, it can drop by for instance having the Masticator boxer biting your ear off. I believe that cost 1 charisma point, and you can't get it back.
However there are perks which increase Charisma and increases the team size you can have with 1 (magnetic personality).

As for the depo, I can't remember - did you get the quest from the Wright's to go there? Or did you just stumble upon it? I think you need the quest to get in.

About the depo, there is a mortar somewhere in the yard, and mortar shell inside one of the buildings in the right (IIRC). You must use the shell to the mortar, and the door shall be blown open.

Like Kipi says, if you have an ear in your inventory thank the Masticator for the CH loss. There's no way to reattach it. You can raise CH by a perk, or later on in the BOS HQ in San Francisco if you have the blue computer module, or by "wearing" mirrored sunglasses. (Put them in an action slot. Mason upstairs at Salvatore's has a pair, a grave in Golgotha has another.) Otherwise use a Mentat or two. (Careful not to get addicted.) The Mentats will raise CH so you can recruit NPCs. Except for Lenny the Ghoul, they'll stay in the group after your CH goes down. (Lenny willl leave when your CH bottoms out.)

Re SAD, I assume you mean the little bunker on the left surrounded by mines. Unfortunately the howitzer shell is inside the bunker. Did you try an electronic lockpick? (There's one in the basement of the New Reno Arms.) Otherwise, I've never tried it, but I'd think dynamite or plastic explosive would work, like when you used it in the trial at the beginning of the game.

Thanks! It was the damn boxer that bit off my ear.

And for the bunker, I tried plastic explosive, didn't harm the door. Haven't tried TNT yet. I did not try an electronic lockpick, but I did try the usual lockpickset.

Thanks for the replies :)

IIRC not explosive nor lockpick works to that door. You must use the howitzer and the shell to get inside.

It's actually not that hard to get the shell, though you need to be either bit lucky to get past the traps, or use save-and-load -method.

Ok I'm bringing this old thread back to life now cause I can't get into that darn bunker either! It's locked, can't be lockpicked, can't be blasted open and for the last time: The Howlitzer is INSIDE the small bunker therefore you can't use it to open the bunker. No help with this in any walkthrough I've seen.

When using lockpick, which message you get? Failed one or Does Nothing one?

And the door to the bunker where Howitzer is shouldn't need anything special.

It says "That does nothing". It's the same problem that I've got in New Reno with the Bishops safes. I have version 1.2 installed, I thought it covered most bugs in the game but I might have been mistaken there.

Nope, if you mean 1.02 with 1.2 (the last official patch).
If that's the case, I really suggest to upgrade it up to Killap's Fallout 2 Restoration Project. I think you can install it directly to 1.02 version, though I can't remember for sure.
