I just reached Suldanessellar, and have had Jaheira in my party the whole time.
And in the beginning we had alot of small talk though never seemed to get beyond that, and she haven't talked to me in along time now. Not sure if I have screwed the romance up somehow.
2ndly, I haven't experienced her harper quest. And not sure if that is even possible to screw up.
I did do the quest where she gets poisoned/cursed but after that she never left the party to tend to harper affair of any kind.
Anyone got an idea if there is something special that triggers those things?
One thing that might have been a problem is that I got maxed out rep pretty early and she contantly complains about keeping balance. So not sure if that is what has put an end to romance and possible quest.

I'm not sure what Darth's reply says, but I can tell you that 2 things have to happen before she goes to the Harpers: 1.You'll have to complete the Xzar quest- the one that begins with rescuing the poisoned man. This quest should've triggered automatically and early in the game. 2.You'll have to rest in one of the wilderness areas outside of Athkatla (Umar Hills, Windspear Hills, de'Arnise Keep, etc.) - and make sure you actually rest outside, not in a cabin, inn, or dungeon. An event will take place when you rest- I won't give it away but you'll definitely know when it's happening to you. If you're at Spellhold, you've got a bit of a time problem with completing her romance but it still can be done if you go a bit out of your way. Just know this rule of thumb: her romance is very drawn out and convoluted but when in doubt, sleep outside.
On a side note, what Darth_Malignus says actually isn't a part of the romance. Its a nice side bit, but it's completely optional to the progression.
Also, if you're in Suldanessellar, then you're a tad late to finish it. As far as I know, the romances can't be completed once you reach Chapter 7.
Foss, did you ever meet up with (minor spoilers):

Dermin and/or have the bit with the bandits after resting outside?
If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.
another side-note...the Xzar-quest does not trigger automatically...not until something else has triggered at least...when travelling between areas, one of the first times you'd be intercepted by a group of bandits who attack you...there is also a wounded man on the ground...after killing the bandits, you'd talk to the man and offer to take him to the Harper's Hold...when that has happened, then Xzar-quest will trigger you may have already done this, but still thought it important to mention...who knows if you decided to just let bandits be bandits and just left the scene?
another thing...I found a romance-guide a pretty invaluable tool when trying to navigate successfully through the romances...of course, it will ruin some of the surprises a bit, but it seems that there are just so many ways they can get screwed...
don't remember exactly where I found the guide, but just google romance-guide and Baldur's Gate 2, and something should come up pretty quickly

this? I decided the jargon was too much for me and left it. Let's hope I can change Viconia's alignment anyway

I was vague about Xzar's quest on purpose- I didn't want to give away the details of the quest like you just did. If you re-read my post I specifically mentioned "rescuing the poisoned man" but I didn't want to go into details. "Automatic" simply means there is no action required to trigger the quest - except having Jaheira in the party, of course, but he has her in the party so this is not an issue here.
