Post by salicylsre »

Hey,

I was wondering which would be the best weapon or weapon category for Jaheira, if I wanna play her in sword and shield style?

thx for any suggestions!

I agree with Gawain, since no one else in your party will probably be using scimitars, and there are some good ones out there.

Slings would be good too for J. Easy to switch back and forth between missile and melee weapons.
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

Until you get some good Scimitars, you might also consider Clubs or Daggers. But ultimately Scimitars.

yeah, right now I have a club, but only a basic one... have to check where I'll get some nice scimitars or clubs...
Isn't the Crom Faeyr (or however it's called) actually a club-category weapon? Shouldn't Jaheira be able to use it?

That's a warhammer. She isn't able to use it.
Off the top of my head, I know you get a +2 Scimitar by completing the Trademeet quests.

That, and another +2 scimitar around an area you need to go to complete those quests.

yeah, but compared to other weapons, those are pretty basic ones without any special features... Starting to think that druids pretty much suck

You haven't tried out the kits and dual classing yet. ;)

Besides, Belm +2 lets you perform an extra attack per round, as for other special effects, you don't really *need* them. There's definitely a very nice scimitar available if you have ToB, and that one's a keeper, for the entire game.

I can definitely say that in SoA, the best weapons for her are Belm, as the others have mentioned, and the Club +3 Blackblood that you can buy in Trademeet after you finish the druid grove quest. I personally prefer Blackblood because it's a +3 weapon and it does extra acid damage which can be great for disrupting hostile mages' spell-casting, but either will do. In ToB, the scimitar mentioned by Crenshinibon is very nice but if you'll consider giving up the sword and shield style, try the Staff of the Ram +6. I think you'll be amazed at the damage she can do with that thing. Jaheira requires patience- she can actually become more useful as the game progresses. She can be damn near walking instant death in ToB if you combine her druid and fighter high level abilities just so, and if she has the right equipment. Just know this: there is one thing that she absolutely needs in SoA to be a truly effective fighter: the Girdle of Hill Giant Strength. Jaheira before she gets the Girdle and Jaheira after she gets the Girdle are night and day, two totally different characters.

There is also the red scimitar that you get sold in Amn by someone who approaches you.

How do you even get that Belm+2? I spent half an hor looking for it in the Druid Grove but
Spoiler
never found the tower where it is supposed to be locked. I even checked the walkthrough and there was no such place in my game.
Have I missed anything?

Also there's no point in spending a point in Sword & Shield Style. The +2 AC bonus vs. Missle is pretty crappy, since you can achieve that with Boots of Avoidance or Cloak of Displacement.

Use "Tab" to highlight areas, maybe that will help. Belm definitly exists and is to be found in the Druid Grove.

There are several ways of obtaining Belm. One involves a Limited Wish Spell, but if you prefer to leap over where the hedge is lowest, hehe, you may find Belm inside one of the buildings in the Druid Grove in a bale of hay next to a cow. In particular, the building just to the right of the house where you find the Rakshasa Witch. Good luck! :)

well, Jaheira as a multi-class progresses quite slow in levels... I have her now on levels 10 or 11... but now she has belm +2 and blackblood+3...
so far I have only one strength girdle (don't remember which one) and that one I gave to my character (Swashbuckler).... after the planar sphere I probably give the ogre power gauntlets to her, then her strength should be high enough, or?

Jaheira will do fine with the Gauntlets of Ogre Power. There's not too much difference between 18/00 and 19 strength. It's great that you have both Belm and Blackblood because you can switch between them - you'll probably find that you'll prefer one in some situations, and you'll prefer the other at other times. Another great weapon that she can get after she gets the Gauntlets is the Sling of Seeking +2, which Bernard the bartender at the Copper Coronet sells. It'll add Jaheira's strength damage bonus from the Gauntlets to the damage done by the sling bullets, and it's the only sling that does this. Jaheira will be set for the rest of SoA with these 3 weapons!

actually she already has the sling of seeking :) I really like her and I think with her harper-dealings she brings some nice moments to the game...

I agree. I think she adds more memorable situations to the game than any other NPC. I think she's very underrated. :)
