Celestial Fury Frenzy

Post by KelsterTX »

As you can see I have just join GameBanshee's Forum and wanted to share a cool secret (spoiler) about the "Un-named Location" in the Temple District. You know when you first enter the building you are told to leave immedicately. I voice my apologies and leave. The two that greeted you teleport to the second floor. I then re-enter the bldg., but keep my party near the entry. I send one of my party (usually Yoshimbo) just past the piano on the southwest part of the room to trigger the summoning spells. Then I race Yoshimbo back to my party, while the summoned creatures kill each other. The last two standing should be the demon and the Efreeti. They are ususally quick to dispach. Then the fun begins. (This will only work if you have the autopause on) I haste the entire party and send them up the stairs to left. The game will pause, I then click on the stairs behind the party and then un-pause the game. The party runs back to the first floor with Maferan, Stalman, Olaf, and Koshi in tow. I kill them, take their gear then run back upstairs. They have respawned, so I run back down again with them in tow. I have gained over 40 Celestial Furys and over 300,000 in gold and I have not been to the Underdark yet. This is cheesy, but with the added levels, I have noticed the game has compensated by adding a few extra Liches (Ulmar Hills, under the Graveyard, Cult of the Unseen Eye, etc.. Just wanted to share.

Welcome to the forums. Meaning no offense, but why would you want to employ a cheat in a game that's relatively easy to beat? We have quite a few threads here about how to make BG2 combat more challenging, not less.

Fable: Point well noted. But as mentioned, the AI in the system has compensated by adding a few extra monsters in unexpected locations. From what I can tell this is making the game a bit more challenging. The monsters have ranged from Greater Wearwolves, Adamantine Golems, and Liches. This game was well thought out and my all-time favorite.

It was one of the reasons this board was started, and remains among the most popular RPGs of all time. :) Just remember that if you find enemy upgrades, it's due to how long you've waited before approaching that area. I've never found any of these a problem, though there are such mods as Ascension that will make you really have to think out carefully how you approach any battle.

Where are you finding liches that they weren't, before?

By the way, there are literally thousands of tips in our forum database, that you can access through advanced search. Just about every cheat and cheese is there, as are discussions of all sorts of mods. Hope you enjoy yourself!

Found a Lich in the Temple Ruins 2, the small room past the floor of fire (2 giant skeletons, 2 mummys, and 1 lich). Then in the area with the floor puzzle. More undead and a Lich. In the Goul Lord's Room, more undead and a Lich. Windspear Dungeon 2, ran into an Adamantine Golem right after the guantlet., the room with the vampires are more aggressive. The warewolves were upgraded to "Greater" status. (could not beat them, so I had to lose them in the maze of rooms). Key battles are not affected, but the random encounters are more challenging.

It's not all about beating the game. Exploits can be fun to find and fun to try out. :)

And besides, BG2 is actually a relatively hard game compared to most others. It requires thinking, experimenting and taking notes, something not many modern game requires.

Sure, it's not all about beating the game. It's about enjoying the characters, checking out the shops, examining every house in a portion of town, talking to every NPC you come across. Enjoying the fantastic atmosphere of the game, which, for me, is the most important thing. Didn't realize it was all about the fun of munchkin cheats--excuse me, exploits. :D

I'm afraid I have to disagree. It really isn't that hard. :) Thinking helps, but at a very elementary level. The puzzles are infantile, and the AI is just barely competent. Of course, there are other games, like the KotoR series, where the combat AI isn't even that--but this doesn't mean BG2 has a really good AI. Spell choices by casters are exceptionally poor. If you want to see what a decent AI can do, with a sufficiency of enemies, check out the Ascension or Tactics mods. It's not pretty. ;)
