hey all, I have a question. I like full parties and I am debating on who to take the 6th slot. My first run was the usual with Anomen and Jan so I want a bit of a mix up. I have plenty of fighting ability I think and I am thinking on making Immie a thief/mage so thieving will be covered. I may be low on divine power but I don't want Anomen or Aerie or Viconia... I may be stuck with Cernd... Any ideas?
My party consists of:
Me: Monk
Minsc
Jaheria
Nalia
Yoshimo>Immie

Filling out a party.
Well, Hello Mr. Fancypants!
Paladins?
What about Keldorn or Mazzy? Don't they have some divine spells? I've never used them, since I'm female and enjoy romance. Between them, Minsc, and the powers Imoen ends up with, you should be able to compliment Jaheria well.

Having both Imoen and Nalia in the same party sounds like a bad idea. They depend pretty much on the same equipment and you'll have hard times dividing it. Also, what do you mean by "making Immie a thief/mage"? She is already a thief, dualled to a mage.
Also, having 2 druids seems a bad idea. Druid spells are generally less effective than priest's, and on lower spell levels the choice is pretty crappy. In my opinion, Cernd sucks big time because his AC is terrible and he cannot wear any armour to change that. And, on top of that, his Con is low, so he dies pretty fast. His Greater Werewolf form might change that, though I doubt you'll have the patience needed to wait until you reach the required level. However, if you are patient enough, you should download and install the Greater Werewolf tweak, in order to gain some benefits from Cernd.
Your sixth member depends much on your playing stile. I prefer brute force over magic, so I would take Keldorn, Mazzy or Valygar. Keldorn can wield the cheesy Carsomyr, but will require the Gauntlets of Dexterity to be effective. And as an Inquisitor he cannot cast any divine spells.
Mazzy is the best NPC shooter in the game and should be your choice if you prefer ranged combat. Her AC is also super for melee fight, but the short sword is not the best weapon of choice. Hopefuly, you can change that.
And Valygar is a bit challenging to play with. Good archer and backstabber, but cannot wear metal armour and is thus vulnerable.
Also, think about Aerie. You get your missing divine caster and additional arcane support at half price. Sure, she is extremely fragile and annoying, but she is useful. Just cut her romance early in the game, before she drives you nuts.

Any party with any lineup will work in BG2. This has been proven here, time and again. Some are more interesting, requiring a greater strategic understanding. Others are simpler, full of power, and very direct. It's simply a matter of how you want to play the game.
If you would like to improve the pool of possible party NPCs, you might want to check here. A few are noteworthy in particular:
Angelo: pretty much as you remember him from BG1: a neutral fighter/mage, willing to be led by just about anybody who is powerful.
Amber: A tiefling rogue.
Chloe: a kensai. Definitely overpowered, but if you're looking for power...
Kelsey: sorcerer. Generally considered one of the finest (possibly the finest) party NPC mod yet made.
Keto: librarian bard. Fun to play, definitely not for power seekers.
Valen: yes, Bodhi's little helper. Like some other standard party NPCs, she will make choices for you, but more often, and always evil ones. Very well made.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Bring a Bard - Haer-Dalis
Nalia and Imoen in the same party doesn't sound to great - these two characters are too similar - only that Nalia is more annoying. Between Imoen and Jaheria - you have enough magic power - I would advise taking Mazzy or trade in Nalia for Jan for better banter and more fun (plus he is the best thief in the BG2).
Aerie is actually the best choice in terms of magical might to take and she becomes Misnc's witch - which makes him happier.
But as you said you don't want to take her - take the Bard - Haer-Dalis - he is quite entertaining and is relatively powerful. You can never go wrong with a bard with you - as he brings his own entertainment and a bit of everything else with him a well.

I agree about the fact that it is not very clever to take and imoen and nalia in one party. In the Underdark you will have lot's of battles and you will need lots of arrows. Another thing to think about is the amount of magic skills you have in such a party. I personally think that Imoen and Nalia suck as mages, the only right choice as mage/thief is Jan. I would add Keldorn to that party, he will surely add a lot of power to your party with the 2-handed sword Crasomyr. Otherwise you could take Aerie, a good combo of all sorts of magic and divine power. I never took a Bard with me because I don't think they really add anything to your party.

I would say ditch Yoshimo for Jan (great thief!!) and get Mazzy!
I'm currently playing with her and she can give and take a beating! and with her own powers u really don't need more divine power. (she can heal herself with a lay in hands abillatie)
Later on swap Nalia for Imoen and you should be fine!
