Various Questions

Post by Carnifex »

Hi,

I'm new to Drakensang and the ruleset being used so here are a couple of questions for any seasoned Drakensang player:

- When it comes to spells, are there any spells that aren't worthwhile increasing the value of ?

- Are there any thresholds for skills where you don't really benefit from increasing the scores any further ? From what I've gathered only a select few skills are worth maximizing (Willpower, Open Locks, Disarm Traps to name a few)

- For a tank character, is Strike of Wrath worth the rather steep prereqs ?

- For hybrids like Gladys, how do you invest combat talents ? I'm thinking opting for defensive stuff like Defensive Combat, the "Master Parry - Wall of Blades - Windmill" chain, Armor Wearer, Shield Fighting (you can still cast with wooden shields, yes ?) etc.

My plan for Gladys is to use her as a skillmonkey (social and rogue skills), buff/debuffer with the ability to melee if needed. Any input as how to optimize her would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

//C

Even for the useful skills, you probably don't need to go higher than 10-15. I only advanced willpower to 12 for my party, and that was enough to prevent most wounds.

That's how I used Gladys. I originally planned for her to be my caster, but then Dranor was gone for so long that she turned into my rogue as well. She can use the wooden shield and leather armor and still cast spells. I didn't buy any combat moves for her, though. I spent most of her experience on skills, spells, and attributes.

Thanks for the input, SWCarter.

Have you had any experience with Animal/Plant lore ?

Rhulana has 10 ranks in each, but fails around 75% of the time anyway, even on simple herbs. I know she doesn't have the best attributes for these skills, but will increasing the amount of ranks in the skill to say 15+ lessen this horrible failure rate ? Otherwise I guess I'd have to build up those skills on Gwendala who has more favorable attributes for these skills.

I advanced Rhulana to 13 in both skills, and that worked well enough. Eventually you'll find some sort of sickle thing, and that will help with her plant lore.

That being said, I didn't do much with alchemy or the crafting skills, so I didn't care as much when Rhulana failed.

Buffing Plant/Animal Skill Users

1. In the "good" spell discussions, I have not seen a lot of mention of the Attribute buffing spells. Hit the plant/animal users with Attribo Dex and it goes a long way to increasing the success rate, particularly on our favorite Amazon.
Dex buffing also helps Pickpocket significantly (along with the thumb blade ring).
I always buff my front line fighters with Attribo Strength just before a big battle.
2. Use the plant sickle and the Farrier's Knife - each adds +2 or +3 to the skill level.
