Cheat Console Not Coming Up

Post by RitingFool »

I'm playing IWD with the Heart of Winter expansion, version 1.42, and I can't get the cheat console to come up (CTRL-TAB). I have added the "Cheats=1" line to the .ini file, but can't seem to get the console up.

What am I doing wrong?

Any and all help is appreciated.

Regards,
Michael

Did you place Cheats=1 under the [Game Options] tag?

It sounds silly, but check to make sure both tab and ctrl keys aren't stuck.

Try enabling the console in your configuration.

I'm having a similar problem.
I have put in the line cheats=1 and the console comes up, but when I paste in the command:
CHEATERSDOPROSPER:EnableCheatKeys();
It comes up with "nice try cheater".
What am I doing wrong if anything?

Wouldn't call this problem similar, but the solution is easy.

For some reason the activation command was changed with HoW.
Try "GETYOURCHEATON:EnableCheatKeys();"

Yes, I put that Cheats=1 line in the .ini file. I'm playing on a laptop, so all keys involved are fine.

Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help.

Sorry to go lame. It looks like you're doing everything right, so something simple pretty much has to be going wrong.

Specifically, did you put "Cheats=1" under the [Game options] tag in icewind.ini? This is relevant. The line can't just be dumped anywhere. The quotes need to be left out.

Did you try activating the console in the configuration utility?
I read it can be done there, but I don't have the game installed atm.
Should be located in your start menu/programs/icewind dale/

First of all, thank you, my cheats are now enabled. However, I am having problems with the cheat commands now and I am assuming that the problem could be the same, i.e. different commands in HoW.
If you could give a link to where the correct cheats can be found for HoW I would be grateful.

I am wondering if Riting Fool closed his game before changing the ini file and then reopened the game. If he didn't that could be what is causing his problem. I would imagine that the changes would not be activated until he reopened the game.

A link for the solution that Avatar of light suggested is here:

I have answered my own question, but for those who want the new cheat codes, they can be found here:

Ahh, that was the problem - activating the cheats in the config utility!

The console now comes up, and cheats are working. Thank you so much!
