Some input on various NPCs needed.

Post by Carnifex »

Hi guys,

I've decided to give the game a go again. I'll be running 3 different characters simultaneosly and I need some advice.

I will run a good/neutral group, a evil/neutral group and one mixed group. I have some trouble deciding various stuff when it comes to the NPC's though.

Let's start with the Evil/Neutral group:

Protagonist:

Human Kensai9/ThiefX

Will pick up grandmastery in Scimitars and also grab Quarterstaff for backstabs as well as Two-Weapon Style.

NPCs:

- Korgan: Axe, Hammer, Two-Weapon Style.
- Viconia: Flails, (Mace), Sling, Sword and Shield Style.
- Edwin: Quarterstaff, Dagger, Dart, Two-Handed Style.
- Haer'Dalis: Longswords, Shortswords (Shortbow), Two-Weapon Style.

Comment: I like the fact that the three dualwielders will be able to incorporate alot of the neat weapons available throughout the game. It's the main reason for this setup. I might add Sarevok as a permanent 6th member in ToB.

Concerns:

- Will a dualwielding Korgan and a shieldwielding Viconia suffice for tanking purposes ?

- Haer'Dalis is the only one being able to wield a bow decently and it won't even be one of his focused proficiencies. Will this be a problem ?

Proceeding with the Good/Neutral group:

Protagonist:

Half-Elf Ranger/Cleric

Flails, Hammers, Maces, Two-Weapon Style. 'Nuff said.

NPCs:

- Aerie: Quarterstaff, Sling, Two-Handed Weapon Style
- Keldorn: Two-Handed Weapon Style, Two-Handed Sword
- Imoen/Nalia: Shortbow, Dagger, Dart
- Jan: Quarterstaff, Shortsword, Crossbow

Comments: I added Aerie for romance purposes and the potential power she will have in ToB.

Concerns:

- Can my Ranger/Cleric and Keldorn pull off tank duty ? I'm thinking yes with all the buffs, but I'd like your input.

- Noone utilizing katanas or longswords, but I figured Keldorn wielding Carsomyr would make up for this somewhat. Am I way off on this ? Maybe adding Valygar as a 6th member using katanas and longswords (or scimitars) is a good idea ?

Finally, "The Mixed Bag":

Protagonist:

Elf Sorcerer

Quarterstaff, Dagger, Dart, Two-Weapon Style

NPCs:

- Viconia: Flail, (Mace) Sling, Sword and Shield Style
- Jaheira: Scimitar, Club, Sling, Sword and Shield Style
- Jan: Quarterstaff, Shortbow, Two-Handed Weapon Style
- Minsc: Warhammer, Axe, (Mace), Longbow, Two-Weapon Style

Comment: I added Minsc for flavor, I could easily swap him out for Korgan.

Concerns:

- Viconia and Jaheira should be able to deal with the tanking, no ?

- Again a lack of longsword/katana wielding characters. A less than ideal situation ?

Any input as how to tweak these groups with their respective alignment concerns in mind would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Your protagonist is a tank, so is Haer'Dalis, Vici isn't, but three tanks are plenty anyway.

The answer is basicaly yes, but Valleygirl wouldn't hurt, personally I'd go with Mazzy, get her as early as you can so she doesn't waste WP's on short bow though, put them on shortswords, give her a belt/gaunlets of OP and watch that little tank go. She'd also give you a laugh or two with the first group, has some hilarious interaction with Korgan.
Viconia and Jaheira should be able to deal with the tanking, no ?
No, Jaheira and Minsc, yes, plus whoever you don't use in P2 out of Val and Mazzy. Or there's always Analman, he can make a decent tank, but if (as I suspect) your protagonist is female, then maybe you don't want that romance.
Distrbution of games, is becoming a little like Democracy (all about money and control) - in the end choice is an illusion and you have to choose your lesser evil.

And everything is hidden in the fine print.
All the protagonists are male. But I can't stand Anomen/Analman.

Anyway, appreciate the input, maybe Mazzy will make it into the evil group, good banter is always appreciated!
