Bug with spells

Post by Gartnad »

Hi. I am a fan of making mages. I made a mage recently and capped its xp but didn't get any lvl 9 spells this one time.

I made many mages in the past and I got lvl 9 spells, as usual.

Any ideas on what might have gone wrong?

What's its intelligence?
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Do you have Throne of Bhaal installed?

What level is your mage?

Is iyour character multiclassed or dualclassed?

Are you sure that they're not level drained?

Just to clarify, you're saying you have no spells or no spell slots?

Also, just to be on the safe side, are you playing mage or a sorcerer?

No. I don't think this is an issue though as this is the first time the problem ever happened to me over approx 6-7 mages.

What level is your mage?
17

Is iyour character multiclassed or dualclassed?
Never bothered doing either of those things.

Are you sure that they're not level drained?
Indeed. Did greater restoration spells, equipped items, etc etc.

Just to clarify, you're saying you have no spells or no spell slots?
No spell slots. I have spells waiting to be used once I get the slots.

Also, just to be on the safe side, are you playing mage or a sorcerer?
Mage, no specialisation (such as conjurer)

Working as intended

According to the table in the Shadows of Amn manual, wizards get level 9 spells @ level 18.
Sage plays a paladin,
because other classes would be frowned upon for laying their hands on a wounded companion

Really? Damn.

But my character isn't gaining xp anymore. So what could be the problem? Because Im pretty sure you can reach lvl 18 in soa without any patches.

I'm as confused by that as you are.

But you can be pretty sure the bug isn't that you're not gaining spells.

The bug seems to be that you're no longer gaining XP.

I believe that the problem is that you don't have ToB.

The experience cap in Shadows of Amn is at 2950000, which, as a mage, would put you at level 17. You should be gaining your first level nine slot at level eighteen, 3000000 experience, which you can only do (legally) by installing Throne of Bhaal, which raises the cap to 8000000 experience points.

That makes sense with what I remember of my mages, but why would level 9 spells be in the SoA manual if this is true?

I remember not being able to cast level nine spells before ToB.

They are there because you are able to find level nine scrolls and see enemies (such as liches) cast those same spells.
