New Experience

Post by jouke1988 »

Hey,

I've played through BG2 several times and I would like some new nice experience. Does anyone know a very hard to play class? And wich people would you take with you then? What would be your dream party then?

Thanks

Very hard? Vanilla bard is pretty difficult, in my opinion. But of course, if you want to make a difficult to play class, simply choose anything and give yourself artificial RPG-based restrictions: a mage that can't cast from 4 schools, for example. A fighter that can only use a weapon on every third round.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

You could do what I did... I started a Bard with minimum requisite stats and average in the other stats. I have these stats (I think):

Str 12
Dex 14
Con 9
Int 13
Wis 9
Cha 15

I also took proficiencies in Dart and Dagger. You may try something along those lines.... or not :p

Bard is very easy since you get the overpowered mage spells and equipment. Try a wizard slayer instead, maybe dualclassed to druid or cleric at level 8,10 or 11, a pure druid or a druid dualclassed right at level 8 at the start to fighter with 17 str, 15-18 wis&cha and neither dex or con higher than 13 might also be hard.

As a Bard player, I do have to say that the class isn't difficult to play. I think Fable's suggestion is the best here as if you pick something like a Beastmaster, chances are that you'll get bored and stop playing.

Self imposed limitations are the greatest challenges, without modifying the game.

As a self imposed limitation, I only allowed myself to rest once a day, and only at night. And I only allowed my dudes to memorize one of each spell each day (no filling Level 1 spell slots with 10 Magic Missiles, for example).

Or roleplay a "themed" character. For example, play as a druid who only uses elemental magicks and items, such that only deal with air earth fire or water.

Otherwise, I would look for mods to refresh the experience.
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

Soloing is often a challenge or pick just a small group. You could play as only a lawful good paladin, and then have only Mazzy and Keldorn in your party. Ideological limitations can reduce the number of your party and create a new experience by getting away from the tank/rogue/healer/mage standard party.

In my opinion, playing with a party is harder than soloing, as you get a single overpowered character.

If you are looking for mods, and want to increase the difficulty, check out Improved Anvil. It greatly increases the difficulty of the game, adds new classes, encounters and items.

Thanks, I'll surely take the mod and a lot of other tips with me.
