Which game should I pick now?

Post by Darian »

Hi! I'm new and I have a question for anyone. I have completed Baldurs Gate, ToSC, Baldurs Gate II, TOB, Icewind Dale, HOW. I do not play online. I have been considering Dark Age of Camelot, Planescape: Torment, or Pool of Radiance. Which one is best? Any other suggestions. By the way Baldurs Gate II was my favorite. Thanks for any help you can give me. :D

Well...I have the same dilemma...I can't choose what RPG to get next. I have heard that P:T is incredible, 'specially if ur into a good storyline.

As for Pool of Radiance 2...well the original was good for its day, and the new one has some really slick graphics, but apparently it is buggy as hell.

As for Dungeon Siege...I'm remaining cautious with that...from what I've heard, its a hack-n-slash, and in most cases, hack-n-slash click-fests can become tedious. Still, if you've played Icewind Dale and the expansion, then you'll prolly like it.

Personally, I am waiting for NWN. That looks awesome! The ability to modify the game in so many ways sounds great.

Anyways, latr

Have you tried Planescape Torment?
I too, like yourself have gone through
all the other stuff, so i think PT
could be ok.
Well, to tell you the truth, i gone half
way through it, but for some reason stoped.
It was not really my thing.
But now that i've finished all the other
stuff, well i think i'll give it another go.
Just a thought.

A word on Planescape:Torment, from one who played it two years ago.

The game is excellent in some areas; possibly the best storyline I have encountered in computer RPG's. However, in scope and game play, it is no BGII. There is a lot of text and dialogue, and a LOT of interactions with the NPC's. And the player is somewhat free to interpret the protagonist's story in a few different ways.

Combat is less important, and the feel is very different from Black Isle's other games - it's claustrophobic, fast, and involves almost no missile weapons whatsoever. The spell system is simpler than in BGII, and a couple of spells (Ice Dagger, Force Missiles) require careful attention or they flop.

I recommend the game with this warning: do not expect another baldur's gate. It's more like an interactive comic book, and you have much less control over classes and abilities. Also i know some people who found the whole "look and feel" of the artwork a little creepy or downright gross. Kind of like D&D in Hannibal Lector's world.

Hope you enjoy it if you decide to play.

Dungeon Siege does indeed look like a Hack and Slash game, as i have seen a video. It reminded me of Diablo in 3d.

:\

PoR2 looks nice, but i think that is all it has going for it. All i can say is :
"bugs bugs bugs bugs bugs bugs"

did i mention the bugs?

PS:T is actually an amazing game. Seems as you have the other IE games, i would whole-heartedly recommend it. You are bound to enjoy it. :D

Planescape Torment is a really great game, but fallout 1 and 2 are both reeaaally great games, by my opinion they are both almost as fun as BG 1 and 2...

Aegnor is right.
I add my opinion: I find more fun in Bg2,
speaking on the gaming side.
You know, all that spells, contingencies...
But I assure you that Torment is a wonderful game to play. Maybe the most involving I ever
played!
It' s very strange in the beginning, but in the end you'll be completely captured!
The characters are wonderful, the music covers its role in creating the pathos and is
beutiful in some places and for some NPCs.
A MUST. Yes, it lacks in combat, but after all, you won't miss it, you'll be captured by the story.
Try it.

Throne of Bhaal was also pretty good...

Wait for NWN!!!!!!!! :D

Try some other genres:
The Sims
Unreal Tournament
Age of Empires
Command and Conquer: Red Alert

Personnally, I'm going to try out Diablo 2.

Download The Darkest Day
Its an add-on to BG2. I don't know whether it adds more after killing Irenicus, but it adds more quests to the game, adds some monsters, and makes monsters much tougher!
Its alot of fun.

BUT WARNING: Tons of Bugs. Download their patches as they make them!

The file is very large. If you have regular dial up it'll take hours. I'm not sure how much. I have high speed, so it only took 1 hour 45 min.
Its 182 MB to download.

You could have a try at Arcanus too !
didn't play the game but reviews were good - some flaws but solid background, interesting rolerplay, lots of options, lengthy game... can be worth a look !

I think that the new Warcraft III is gonna be good but who knows. I used to play everquest but that damn thing is addicting. Age of Empires is really good but id have to say BG II is the best by far

You could go get some old classics, like "Betrayal at Krondor".

Planescape Torment is fantastic! Buy it if you haven't already and you'll meet the original owners of Dak'kon's Zerth Blade and Vhailor's Helm (that being Dak'kon and Vhailor, if you hadn't figured it out) ;)
