Coleman (SPOILERS)
Coleman (SPOILERS)
I have some questions about Coleman. I'm providing space for answers, as I think this might generate a lot of comments. This all Chapter 2, or even beyond.
First of all, is he needed after clearing Vincent of the crimes he's supposed to have committed?
Second, is there anyway of keeping him alive after talking to Raymond?
Third, is it possible to wait until all the other quests are done to talk to Raymond, and then finish those quests last? What I'm asking here is this, is it important to talk to him at the start of the chapter, or can I put it off until almost the end?

Spoilers so highlight to read:
.
I would like to add though that I am by no means an expert on this game as I'm just nearing the end of Chapter 2 myself.
Spoiler
Considering in my game I never even got to speak to him before he died and have not encountered any complications, in fact it seems to be part of the plot as a result of decisions that were made by myself in Chapter 1, I don't think its too important when you speak to him or if he dies. It might change certain quests but it won't prevent you from advancing in the game

Spoilers:
Coleman only dies if you allow the Scoiatel to steal Haren Brogg's crates in Chapter 1. If you kill the Scoiatel, Coleman will be safe.
There are other ways to clear Vincent's name besides Coleman. Aside from the Hot Potato quest, Coleman's involved in the quest "The Rat." After this quest, Coleman will disappear regardless of how you solve it.
I don't know about completing ALL other quests first - Raymond triggers so much of what you have to do in Chapter II, and there's a lot of interplay between what he wants you to do and your interactions with Kalkstein/the Swamp Tower and many others. Why do this anyway?

This is the type of stuff I'm looking for, getting different view points from different people, and seeing what's what. The main reason I started this thread was to see if there is any real, proper, way to doing Chapters 1 and 2. I mean, is there anything that you have to do before or after the main quests, things like that?
BTW, on my next go through of the game, I'm going to change a thing or two in my playing.

I actually like triggering the main quests first but putting off completion until the end (obviously, as that will end the chapter)... I guess what I mean I generally only return to the main quests once I have exhausted all the side quests. Also, in many chapters, moving into the final phase of the main plot will eliminate quest-giving NPC's (Chapter I - the peasants disappear after you enter the cave, Chapter IV, all villagers vanish when White Rayla appears at Lakeside, etc.)
Talking to Raymond in Chapter II gets you a list of suspects, most of whom are involved in several other quests and subplots. It makes sense to go ahead and get some of the talking/investigating out the way, allowing yourself to get sidetracked by "lesser" quests is fine. Aside from the Coleman contingency, I think any order is fine, even if you're ready to enter the swamp tower and confront Raymond/Javed, you can still run back to town and wrap any other quests.

As to Coleman, I'm going out on a limb here, and trying not to spoil anything, in saying that no matter what happens in Chapter 1, that he gets taken care of in the end, right? Ok, one more thing, I think this relates to Coleman, and it's something I wonder about, I may just read more of the guide than where I am at the moment. Is there a need for fisstech, however that's spelled in future chapters? I don't need to know who it's for, just is it needed?
As to order of things, I still don't see much use in starting some of the main quests when the side ones are as easily done. Of course you may have to tie up the loose ends of somethings after the main quests are started, but most of them you don't really need to do. Right now, I finished the A Lost Lamb quest for chapter 2, and I believe that I will do some exploring and get ready to take care of a couple other things while I am in the area. I've progressed other things that I almost am ready to start the main quests. One thing I will mention here, is that part of the main quests have already been dealt with, as they were already in my list soon after I started the chapter. Well, I've already progressed of the suspects to a stand still, the third is no longer a suspect.
One other thing, I was wondering if I need all the stuff I carry with me all the time? I mean aside from a few potions, swords, alcohol, the alchemical bases for oils, and bombs? Or is all of it needed?

I don't know, because I have no idea what you're carrying. If you make oils and bombs, then you should keep around the ingredients for them, and because the game is sometimes restrictive about when and where you can do things, it's better to keep them in your inventory. But if you're asking about red shawls and gold rings and things like that, I mostly sold them. One other thing, I was wondering if I need all the stuff I carry with me all the time? Ok, I'll get rid of the last of the fisstech when I can.swcarter wrote:No.

On the other matter, I'll get rid of the things I don't really need, like rings, scarves, gloves, things like that. I'll drop them off with the innkeeper, as I may need some of them eventually, for one reason or another.

He'll only get murdered by the elves if you make a certain choice in Chapter I. Otherwise, it sort of depends on how you play out the quest "The Rat." Just keep in mind Coleman may not be who he appears to be.As to Coleman, I'm going out on a limb here, and trying not to spoil anything, in saying that no matter what happens in Chapter 1, that he gets taken care of in the end, right?
I'm mostly thinking of traveling and efficiency. All the back-and-forth between the swamps and the town and the sewers and the graveyard, etc...all the loading screens and the ferryman conversations can get tiresome after a while. I like to do as much as I possibly can in a given area at a given time before I move to another. As to order of things, I still don't see much use in starting some of the main quests when the side ones are as easily done.
Something has me curious now. I need to ask something. Is Coleman still around, if you make a certain choice in Chapter 1 and you start the investigations for Raymond, or does he just disappear? And how do you finish Hot potato and The Rat if that's true? (And The Rat does tie into the investigations.)
As to running around like a chicken with it's head cut off, I also finished a couple of things for some of the sideline missions, and as soon as it gets light in my game, I'm going to finish another one. I can't remember, offhand, how many Sephirot I have, but I think I have almost all of them. I know I have at least 7, if not 8. When I play again, what I'm going to do is finish somethings in the swamp, finish up the sidequests that I can, then start the investigations. This way, I'm not running around everywhere, and wasting time with everything. I only use the ferryman one way, not both. I like using the places of power to teleport to what's his name's house. This provides a good place to buy/sell some stuff, get some rest, and even able to get some of the notices done.

Even if you allow Coleman's would-be murderers to live in Chapter I, you can delay his death and finish up Hot Potato and The Rat as long as you do them before talking to Raymond. After talking to Raymond, the next time you enter the Hairy Bear, Coleman will be killed.
If you kill the Scoiatel in Chapter I, you can do Hot Potato and The Rat at your leisure. His fate will be uncertain then, as he eventually disappears, though the amount of info you can find out about him depends on if you trust him or not in your speech options.
