need help with choosing companions!

Post by arryjan »

hi everybody new poster so forgive me if I've started about a subject that's been discussed plenty of times already :o

anyway, I'm playing nwn 2 again and I want to get the right balance in my party this time around. I'm playing a lawful-good aasimar monk character and I'm at the beginning of part 3 now.
I just can't figure out however who I should choose as my party members. I like khelgar and elanee(also cause they're both good natured characters) but I don't know what to do with the other 2 spots..grobnar and cassavir?neeshka and sand?zhajeve and construct?they're all serious options( not into quara and bishop, nor a big fan of ammon jerro)
please help, any advice would be appreciated

thans in advance,

arryjan

You're also not very patient, putting up another post within less than 90 minutes after the first. ;) Please don't bump your thread--not until it's off the first page, and certainly not now, when it's at the top of it. When people come by who feel informed enough to reply, I'm sure they will. But you need to give it time.

Welcome to GB arryjan :)

If you are in need of the skills, then i suggest you take Neeshka with you. If you wan't a party that can deal tonnes of damage against your opponents then don't forget to include the githzerai cleric. Clerics are the best characters to deal with NWN2's gameplay. Period. Another option to consider is Sand. As a wizard, he is a very useful support character to ur monk and khelgar, in addition to Elanee of course.

So, in conclusion, go with a party like this. Elanee, Khelgar (both ur choices) and Neeshka/Sand, and Zhejave (a must imho, tho there are sure others who will disagree with me). Or you could forsake Khelgar for Casavir. After all, a paladin is always good to have around when fighting undead. :D

SPOILER (highlight to read)
Spoiler
Do this if uve turned khelgar into a monk. No point in having 2 monks running around bludgeoning people to death with their fists.

Note that the all the above is just my opinion, so i hope it proves helpful.

thanks loki, that is some useful advice :)
not too keen on sand..he's got low HP..but his snidy comments do make me laugh, I like neeshka but she's always in the way because of her alignment and character..think I'll go with Zhajeve and Grobnar(just like the fella really)
or is grobnar a bad choice?(he's done fine in the missions I've used him so far)

Grobnar is ok, but not the strongest built bard. Not a good archer and a much worse fighter. Bards do better as buffed warriors then pure casters. If you use him be sure to use 'curse song'... It is very good. And use his inspirations. I would probably use the AC and regeneration one.

You might need Sand for a few tough enemies like Dragons. Almost nothing beats Isaac's Greater Missile Storm for damage to a single foe. Especially metamagic versions.

I also liked Khelgar and Elanee. Elanee for barkskin and I gave her 'persistent spell' and had her take a spell that regenerated everyone 1 HP in the party, permanently. Also persistent body of the sun. And she can summon and cast lots of lightning.
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

Sorry if this is a little too late. I have ranked the companions in the order that I would take them based on overall usefullness in getting through situations, and of course winning all the fights:
1) Neeshka - You need a rogue in every group. Plus she's a pretty good fighter. Particularly if you can sneak her into a fight and backstab people.
2) Kelgar and Qara Tie for second place. Kelgar because he is the toughest companion in the group, and Qara because she dishes out the most damage. I hate having to predict what spells I will be using, so I'll take a Sorcerer over a Wizard any day of the week.
An added bonus with this group is that Kelgar, Neeshak, and Qara have great chemistry and some really funny lines.
3) Elanee and Zaheve tie for 3rd place.
4) Sand. Sand should be leveled up as a support character who will be used for enchanting all of your scrools/weapons/Armor/rings, etc.
5) Amon Jerro.
6) Construct.
6) Bishop and Cassivir.
7) Grobnar. In my opinion the guy is annoying and pretty much worthless. Use him to go on buying sprees, and improve your companions abilities to get past certain tasks.
