Commercials (stay on topic, please)

Post by fable »

This was brought to my attention in a Gilbert & Sullivan discussion group, but it definitely transcends that. Worth a chuckle, at least. I have to wonder who banned it, if indeed it was banned, at all.

Any other strange commercials whose links you care to post, and discuss? Just keep it, well, relatively tasteful. Nothing involving Carl Rove, please. Besides, he's been dead for years.

No link opf my own sadly, but I can point out that commercial hasn't been banned in the UK, or at least it wasn't yesterday when I watched it on, would you believe, Virgin 1.

Since I don't watch TV I don't know any commercials, but this commercial from the German IKEA were stopped by the Swedish headquarter because they thought it gave a skew and prejudiced views of Sweds. I remember it very well because both I and all my Swedish friends thought that minus the traditional clothing that nobody uses anymore except to show the tourists, they were totally social realistic, documentary in fact :D

Hm. Uh, I'd guess that if it is banned, would it depend on where it was banned? Like, the candy shown looks like those skinny cigars. Since they stopped making candy cigarettes here, maybe it is banned here?

Funny anyway!
Shhh! Be very quiet! I may be sleep writing and sleep reading!

.....I thought it looked funny too! But as for what you mentioned, I wouldn't know so I couldn't make a good guess.

A search for "banned commercials" on youtube yields quite a lot of results, and the only thing that they seem to have in common is that they can be thought of as funny.

Several of those results are commercials that have been running here without any appearent problems, in fact the only one that I know of that was "banned" in any sense was the Ikea commercial that CE linked to.

Which makes me think that "banned commercial" is used as a label to identify a funny commercial rather than a banned one.

So you think this is similar to games proudly claiming (in numerous ads aimed at a juvenile market) that their use of mature materials intended for adults only is in the best taste?

Yes, save the fact that it is not the company responsible for the commercial that does the labeling in this case.

Both the posters of that video and the heads of the gaming industry share one lamentable quality, however: they're all human. With any luck, though, the species will be extinguished in a few hundreds years, and the earth can return to being ruled by amphibians and smaller reptiles. Take comfort in this.

Well, I would not go as far as to say that. After all, Some of my best friends are human. :)

Oh, mine too. But cheer up! They have several hundred more years to survive before they blow themselves up. That's certainly time enough for another all-night poker game. :)
