Long Sword +2 for Thieves?

Long Sword +2 for Thieves? [Solved, no help needed]

I know that thieves can equip long swords, but the game won't allow me to equip the Long Sword +2. Is this a game bug, or is it just me wanting my way?

If it helps, the character I'm trying to equip the Long Sword +2 is a multi-classed thief/mage half-elf.

Is it just a normal longsword +2?

Are you using a magical weapon (weapon created by a spell)?

Do you meet the strength requirement?

Yeah, didn't think to check that.
It's just a Long Sword +2 I found in Irenicus's dungeon.
And the strength requirement is what avoided my attention until you mentioned it.

Thanks.

There's a Longsword +2 in baddie's dungeon?

I thought it was only +1. =/

I found my Long Sword +2 in a barrel near the portal on the first level of Irenicus's dungeon. It's probably a random magical item spawn.
But yes, there will be a fixed Long Sword +1 spawn on that table.

There is no random magical item spawn in Irenicus' dungeon. Everything you find there is pre-placed. And a +2 longsword would be better than the best sword you can find that's part of the code.

I'm sure that all I found in the barrel you're talking about is a scroll of Shield and maybe some bullets.

Never seen a Longsword +2.

Fable, I'm pretty sure that there is at least one location that contains a random items spawn, which would be in the room with the Mephit Portals. On occasion I have come across a Simulacrum or a Spell Trigger scroll within the shelf. As you know, I run no mods.

You might be right, Crenshinibon. I shouldn't have been so definite. I'll have to check the room out. That said, if the thing has such a randomized range, I'll bet it was fixed in a patch. And if that's the case...

Berethor, are you using the latest official patch?

Yeah, I am.

Regarding that bookcase in the room with the Mephit portals, I've found things like Mordrekanien Sword(spelling?) and Abi-Dazim's Horrid Wilting scrolls in it before.

In all my years of playing and replaying, I've never found anything that high end (for your level at the time). I wonder if the fact that I usually play with fixes--first Baldurdash, later the Gibberlings Three--means that was toned down.

Back when I was finding these high-end scrolls in that bookcase, I didn't use any mods at all.

Since I've started using mods, I haven't seen them. Mainly because one of the mods is Dungeon Be Gone because it is pretty much the only thing that can get me through baddie's dungeon for the 1216782th time.

Also use BG2Fixpack, BG2Tweaks, Widescreen, Banter Pack, and Flirt Pack. Most of 'em are from G3.

I'm thinking LitShadowolf may not be using the latest patch, or may not be using any mods. Which would explain the random stuff at that one location with a higher grade item than should normally be the case so early in the game.

LitShadowolf, can you confirm?

Well, I didn't use any third party mods, but I think still had the official patch installed when I was finding these scrolls.

Just ran through baddie's dungeon, and all I found in the bookcase was a scroll of protection from electricity this time. I'm not sure why high level scrolls had appeared for me.

Still, I've never seen a Longsword +2 in the starter dungeon.

At the time the LS+2 spawned, I wasn't using the patch. I did patch a few days ago, and it hasn't re-spawned.

I must not have been using the patch when I was getting those crazy scrolls, then. I guess the game mixed up loot tables and placed things where they weren't supposed to be before the patch fixed it.

I always use the latest patch and occasionally get the high level scrolls. I've gotten Tensor's Transformation from some of the random thieves during the Mae' Var's Guild quest as well, same for random looting.

I can see that--but would it make sense, do you think, for the developers to create a situation where in the first dungeon, you could find a weapon twice as good as the special enchanted one you need to go on a (admittedly small) quest for in that same dungeon? I have to think this is a bit strange.

I have never encountered random non scroll items in Irenicus's dungeon before though I did notice that when continuing a character from Baldur's Gate, the items found are a bit different.
