Take THAT, Trekkies!!!!
I think that was Chuang Tzu about the Butterfly... or at least it was also Chuang Tzu.. who was influenced by Lao Tzu. Thougts are strange...irritation is just a NO...can even be nonviolent!
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
Hmm, I wonder what the term is for obsessional fans of Thunerbirds? I was on a train once full of football supporters when a whole bunch of T'bird fans in full uniform boarded the train. Some of the footy supporters immediately started taking the ...., er extracting the waste water. This suddenly ceased when I asked the main culprit if he really was Guy Whittingham, which was the name on the back of the team shirt he was wearing. Difficult to continue mocking others for wearing fancy dress when you're doing it yourself!
Moral of that nonsense? Don't mock trekkies if you indulge in obsessive behaviour yourself, like maybe playing the same fantasy RPG over and over, or maybe have maps of The Sword Coast on your wall or whatever. Regular church goers should certainly think twice.

That noun thingy they do, you mean? But the whole religion-becoming-Religion is found in Romance languages, too.Millieway wrote:Thus, German speakers respect quite a big load of things.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Well, I don't want to pick a fight here, but at least we DO respect some things, and most of them for some reason...Millieway wrote:Thus, German speakers respect quite a big load of things.
(Just for the record: I'm from Austria, and therefore German is my native language.)
On the other hand - my german teacher gave up on my "noun thingy" (Thank's fable, you made my day there. ) after a couple of years and told me to learn to write in english, since "That is easier to learn for the likes of you!"
I think I broke her spirit...
I hate to say that, but our dear fabelicious here is correct.fable wrote: But the whole religion-becoming-Religion is found in Romance languages, too.
