Well I dusted off the box looked at it and have chosen to give it another go. Looked a bit on the web, seen that people were still here talking about the game and figured I would get your lot's two cents on a idea of mine. First this is not a powergamer's build, this is being done simply for the fun of it to see how far I get.
Character I want to make
Class: Sorcerer
Race: Havn't decided yet
Spells will focus mostly around summoning creatures, and controlling the fight.
Crowd control is a big thing with this guy.
Skills:
Concentration
Spellcraft
Diplomacy
Bluff
What I wanted to know was what you guys though about this and any advice/ideas/anything else you felt like throwing in to tell me or any other thinking about this idea.

It's important to note that although you can technically play Icewind Dale 2 solo it is a partybased game. You can create up to 5 additional characters to join your party. Try searching for threads on advice on this, there are a lot.
Sage plays a paladin,
because other classes would be frowned upon for laying their hands on a wounded companion

Make sure to select buff (eagle's splendor, mass haste, ...) and self-defense spells (cat's grace, improved invisibility, ...), you can't control a crowd if you're dead, buffed summons fight even better and crowd control spells are harder to save against when your cha is boosted.
If you take summoning spells early they'll become useless later when you can cast "animate dead", level 1 1 spells are quite bad anyway so you can start with summon monster 1, but I definitely wouldn't pick summon monster 2 since there are too many good level 2 spells.
Putting points into diplomatic skills isn't needed, the high cha will be sufficient for nearly all dialogues. Make sure to max dex, con and cha at creation, don't put many points into wis, +4 wis aren't more useful for this character than a crappy "iron will" feat.
