Greetings folks. I'm in the middle of my first BG1 run-through (TotSC installed, no mods other than convenience tweaks (ammo/gem/potion stacking)). I have played through BG2 before although I never did get anywhere near finishing the game.
So here's a question ... or a series of (hopefully) related questions for you folks. How do you folks handle trap detection? Do you get your thief into trap detection modes in dungeons only? Do you send him/her ahead or does the entire party creep forward (painfully) slowly? Preferred formations for that scenario?
I vaguely remember being able to cast find traps (cleric spell) on my thief in BG2. That coupled with the stealth mode translated to safe scouting/trap detection. The find trap spell doesn't seem to have a target (self cast only) in BG1.
Trap detection and/or stealth
I've never bothered with the nerfed Find Traps spell, nerfed because it should (IMO) be Find & Remove Traps!
Sadly because the clerical spell is effectively useless one almost has to have a thief in BG games.
In BG I started out only checking for traps in dungeons, but found that to be a bad idea eventually. There are outdoor locations where cautious exploration is advisable.
I always have an advanced scout where the game permits though, checking not just for traps but for potential enemies, but doesn't everybody?

[QUOTE=Darth Gavinius;1096098]Distrbution of games, is becoming a little like Democracy (all about money and control) - in the end choice is an illusion and you have to choose your lesser evil.
