Sound issues with PC

Post by Lotharius »

'Ello all. I am, as the title impies, having some auido problems with the game. Firstly, one of the noticeable problems is that when certain sound files start or end there will be a clicking/popping sound right at the beginning or end, especially when exiting any sort of interface (like clikcing "OK" on the little pop-ups that show XP gained). It happens a lot and I know its not supposed to be there, though I can't figure out why. The second issue, which is by far the most noticeable and irritating, is that the music that plays when you gain light side or dark side points will not play at all. I've only ever heard it play once and that was probably by luck, except when it did play it just kept repeating over and over everytime I clicked on anything. I can't see any reason for this, and if anyone has any insight as to what may cause it I would have the utmost appreciation.

Are your audio drivers updated? It might help.

Yep. Unless I was supposed to uninstall and remove all the old crap first? I'm not too savy with this driver thing besides for installing new stuff. And if necessary I could get info on my sound hardware specs. Games like KotOR 1 and Republic Commando run fine which is why I am so confused as to why TSL has problems audio wise.

If ur audio drivers are correctly updated, then it could be that ur game files are corrupted. Try updating or reinstalling the game.

Hmm... what about checking your in-game audio setting? I can't remember how it looks like as its been a while, but either change it from hardware to software acceleration or change it from 3D to 2D acceleration.

If that doesn't work, then I can assume that either the new drivers cause the problem, since it can sometimes affect the audio in older games, or it's the game's problem.

Well, I could try using older drivers, thought not being all too knowledgeable about the whole driver thing, would anyone know how could I get rid of current drivers and get older ones, aside from having the original driver CD as I think those may be too recent. Or, if all else fails, how would I know if the game files are corrupt? I tried reinstalling it with the same result. I'd hate to think the files on the CD itself are corrupt.

You will have to uninstall your current audio drivers first, then you will have to clean up any remaining audio files. To be safe, I'd recommend Guru3D's Driver Sweeper. Pretty handy tool and it didn't cause me any problems.

Thanks for the link. If nothing else the driver program helped me clean out all the old stuff. I'll try uninstalling the current drivers and putting older ones in as soon as I get a chance, hoping that the site also has all the driver versions. Hopefully I can find someone who can verify a driver version that plays it correctly between now and then though.
