New IWD Player Few questions please.

Post by sonny »

Just finished BG1, BG2 and PS:T (took me almost a year to finish these great games) and now I would like to play IWD.

I have the IWD Ultimate Collection which includes HOW and IWD2. According to Planet Baldurs Gate IGN site, the Ultimate Collection is fully patched.
Does anyone know if this is true?

Also I would like to load the IWD G3 Tweak Pack which I'm assuming would be loaded after IWD and HOW?

Also thinking about loading the Pocket Plane IWD NPC mod.
Anyone have any thoughts on this mod. And would it be loaded before or after the G3 Tweak Pack?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I plan on playing this game the 1st time through as I did BG 1&2 and PS:T That is no walkthroughs and not reading any spoilers when possible:angel:

Thanks in advance
Sonny :) :)

I don't see why that version wouldn't be patched, to be honest.
You might also want to search for "Trials of the Luremaster", which is a patch with an extra dungeon for HoW. That's the most recent version, IIRC.
I'd install the Tweak Pack before any other mod, so first Tweaks, then NPCs. Personally, I'd suggest against the NPC mod, since IWD's most telling feature was the ability to entirely create your own party. Having characters with maxed out stats definitly pays off, not to mention the ability to choose your own classes.

Your question about mod installing order is answered in the readme of the mod:
http://mods.pocketplane.net/kulyok/Readme-IWDNPC.txt
If the free official TotL expansion isn't included in your collection it's worth downloading it if you want a longer gameplay experience.

Personally I see no need for installing any inofficial mods, since the game isn't broken there's no need to fix it. IWD offers the freedom to build a team of 6 characters yourself, the NPC mod lets you use up to 5 characters created by someone else.

On top of that, those NPCs tend to be like the ones from the other games, with (near) useless stats.
The Tweak mod is very useful, if only for the stacking of items like arrows and gems.

Thanks everyone for all the help. Going with just the Tweak Pack, because like GawinBS points out being able to stack items is very handy and it also includes the Holding Bags which I found very useful in BG2

The way I understand it, if you have the Heart of Winter expansion, then that patches IWD1. If you have the Trials of the Luremaster free download expansion, then this patches IWD HoW.

When the HoW expansion was released, many were critical of HoW's short length. The Trials of the Luremaster free download was in response to this criticism. It was made by the official designers, so it's pretty much an official expansion imo.

If you're gonna play everything, you might as well play everything. Check it out:

Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...
