Forum has become unusable

Post by galraen »

I really have had enough of waiting for ages for pages to load whilst looking at the 'Advertisement Loading' message.

I'll check to see if the site has become usable again periodically, but this problem has got worse and worse in recent months.

I realise that money is the driving force here, but bandwidth hogging adverts are self destructive.

I have no problems with other sites, MLB can be a tad sluggish compared to others, but nowhere near as bad as this site.

It gives me no pleasure to write this, I've really enjoyed GameBanshee, but enough is enough.

I have no such issues. I'm running on FireFox with the AdBlock Plus addon and no advertisements load at all.

I've had issues with adverts but it is periodic. For one period something was triggering my virus software at this site. Probably an add which was trying to add (implant) too much crap to my computer.

Probably if you complain to Buck he can talk to UGO or whatever and figure out which adds are causing your particular issue.

I did have problems accessing this site a week before until sometime last week. It's been okay yesterday and today so far. Not too sure if it's site-related or a problem with my ISP because I do recall that access to other sites were poor at the same time.

My results with Firefox and AdBlock Plus have been erratic, at best, so I'm using Ad Muncher. It works extremely well.

I'm sorry you feel that way, galraen. Personally, I've never had any such issues. Every once in awhile, I'll notice an auto-starting interactive ad or something that impairs the browsing experience in some way, but a quick email to UGO usually takes care of it by the end of the day.

As I've said many times, GameBanshee simply wouldn't exist without the advertisements. If it was even remotely feasible to remove them and still pay all the bills associated with running the website, I certainly would. Sadly, I don't see that happening short of winning the lottery.

If you feel the need to use an ad blocker, then I can't stop you. But consider this: if, say, 50% of our visitors were using an ad blocker, I'd probably have to shut down the site. It's the reality of the situation, unfortunately.

Firefox and Adblock plus have worked great for me. Almost no loading at all.

Will just say that I've had very few problems on this site with Ad Block off. I think this is the only site I don't block adverts on.
Must be region specific adverts which cause problems.

I have never used an adblocker on this site, and apart from the occasional annoying scroll over ad, I've had no problems at all for quite a long time now.

It seems OK today, for now at least, first time in over a week.

The problem is with the advertising, which is regional, so it's not going to affect all of us the same way. My suspicions are the fault lies with who ever's running the advertising, not GB as such.
