Bravil Recomendation - Mages Guild Help
Bravil Recomendation - Mages Guild Help
Hey I could really use some help getting the Bravil recomendation for the mages guild. Right now I have all the others and this one is the only one left. For some reason there's no dialogue option for a "recomendation" the only thing Kud-Ei talks about is her missing friend not the staff I'm supposed to get for the recomendation. Can anyone help me out with this?

i ran into the same problem while doing another quest. for some reason, it seems you can't have two active quests from the same person, i guess, or there might be something else related to a previously active quest involving this person. but once i completed the one active, the topic for the second appeared. try completing her quest about the missing friend, if i remember well it is the one about the guy caught in the dreamworld or something and it is a tricky one. then try speaking to her again.
I noticed two things.
1) if your already working on the missing friend, Henterie then you need to complete that quest first.
2) even so there is a lot of dialogue options and the recommendation dialogue options often need you to scroll down

Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
Can't get Bravil recomendation quest!
I am having a similar problem. I was offered the dreamworld quest and completed it but now I ask for the recomendation again and all I get is talk to Varon Vamori. I have talked to him and raised his dispositon with gold. He never goes beyond saying I never hurt her.
I never recieved the scroll of beguile or a formal quest on this. Kud-Ei keeps repeating am I ready and I say yes then she tells the story and thats it. No special quest shows up or a scroll. Is this a glitch or is there some way around it. This is my last recomendtion before I can get into the Arcane University. Please Help!!!

Have you exhausted all the dialog options with Kudei and Varon Vamori? I've never undertaken the Dreamworld quest before finishing the Bravil recommendation quest, in fact I can't even recall being offered it until I've returned the staff, but that shouldn't make a difference. If all else fails you can use the console command Setstage MG03Illusion 100 to get out of the jam.
If you're unfortunate enough to be playing on a console, then all I can suggest is reverting to an earlier save and trying again.

Thanks Galraen. I did go back to a previous save. It was before I ever reached Bravil. Then went directly to Bravil and still did not get the quest or dialogue. I am told only to speak with Varon Vamori and there is no mention of a staff. Only thing she says is she is concerned about the alchemist, forgot her name spelling, and would I talk to Vamori. I never get an official quest or any mention of a staff. Yes I did use all the dialogue options but some are just not there. Kud-Ei just skips right to are you ready, after I speak with her about recomendation. Then tells me about the alchemist problem and to speak with Vamori. No mention of his name in first dialogue or a staff.
I will try your other method and hope it works. I'm not very technical with console stuff so here goes.

I've had another look in the construction set, ad from what I can make out of Kudei's filtered dialog it does seem that if you get this message
If you managed to have a save before getting that message, and the bug is still biting you then the console option may be your only option, best of luck.
before talking to her that there is a good chance that the recommendation quest gets screwed up. Like I said I don't recall that ever happening to me, I can only assume there's a rogue conversation that you unfortunately overheard, in other words the cock-up that is radiant AI strikes again!I've heard that Kud-Ei at the Mage's Guild in Bravil is searching for assistance in locating a missing friend. A reward is being offered, so I've decided to find out more information.

I can't thank you enough galaren. The console trick worked and put me right after the quest is accepted. I was finally able to finish the mages recommendations and enter the Arcane University. Thanks ever so much you saved me.
I have not patched this game at all and was wondering if you could offer some advice as to what I should do. I have installed the other 2 parts, Silver Isles etc. Hope thats not a problem.

Shivering Isle itself effectively 'patches' Oblivion up to date, there is a SI Patch here that you should download and install I suppose. I gather you haven't installed any of the beta patches so you shouldn't have any problems. Check the version you have running (the number is in the bottom left corner of the load screen), if it saays 21.2.0416 you're bang up to date, no more patching needed.
Glad to be of assistance, the great thing about this forum is that we all help each other as we can. Occasionally some of us bang heads, but we're all on the same side when it comes to games.

I don't like to keep bothering you but I want to make sure that I am doing the correct thing with patching. I started Oblivion to check the number and it is v.1.2.0416 not 21.2.0416. Even though I purchased it about a month ago, could it be an older version? Pardon my ignorance about all this please.
Second I clicked your link to the patch page and the first one there was for english and was SI v.1.2.0416. I downloaded it to Desk top. It's as you said, that I can use it if I have never patched anything. No uninstall required. When I clicked on the patch to install, it said that this would bring my game up to v.1.2.0416. I am not sure what that meant as I already have that version so did not patch yet. It made me wonder if I downloaded the correct patch. I am very good at making a mess of things LOL!
Thanks again for your help. I really appreciate your taking so much time to help me.

That's the SI patch, v1.2.0416. It will also patch the main game.bablee1 wrote:I don't like to keep bothering you but I want to make sure that I am doing the correct thing with patching. Not to make things too tough for you, but I'd recommend another patch, after that one. It's called the [url=http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=1417]Official Unofficial Patch, and it fixes another 1,800+ bugs in the game. Again, it's just simply downloaded to your desktop (or whatever directory you want. Use the third of four downloadable versions. It's an executable, meaning you won't have to open any archives or install any OMODs.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Thanks Fable and thats a long name but I copied it. Do you have to be a member of gamespy to download it from there?
What I miss about the Old Morrowind game was an addon that created a vendor who gave you full price for most of you goods. Ahh, the good ole days LOL!!!
Thanks again and I may be back for help.

It can only happen to me. :speech:
Sorry all but the patch SI v1.2.0416 gave me an error when I clicked on it. It started to update then stopped and this was the error message: Old File not found. However a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match??? The last sentence here is confusing. :confused
Fable I was not able to find the download you told be about. I put in the address and kept getting directed to forums. Used the link also but did not see an actual download. Thanks for trying to help.

Sorry for the previous typo, the version number should have read 1.2.0416 not 21.2.0416.
The link that Fable was rying to put up was to here. So two typos by two different posters, can't get much more confusing can it?
As you are bang up to date with patches, you should be fine. Once again apologies for the confusion my typo caused.
