Point taken. But if we are on the subject of discussing evils, well, there are always greater ones to be had. And one less bad person could go a long way to correcting those evils. That's my belief anyway.C Elegans wrote:I tell you what I think is really bad: 1) the way we humans destoy the environment so the entire eco system suffers 2) cruelty (ie inflicting unnecessary pain) on animals for purely commercial reasons, ie animal testing of cosmetic products, unnecessary painful keeping and tranportation in the food industry 3) cruelty to animals for entertainment, such as arranged fights or the caged indoor dogs I mentioned above.

Oh - and twitter and facebook spread news - how does that separate from the news normally, as taken from unverifiable sources?![]()
(Yes, I've watched the daily show recently)
There are lots of reports from unverifiable sources - Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, World of Warcraft, anything. Internet connection as well as mobile phone connection has been limited in Iran. However, the problem of banning media and relying on unauthorised reports, is not unique. Israel has banned international media many times from occupied areas, and reports have come from eyewitnesses, both private persons and single individuals from various aid organisations. The US has banned reports from Iraq, Afghanistan and other politically sensitive areas many times, and official documentation have later been disputed (ie it was later verified that when the US invaded Iraq, they US army paid Iraqi citizens to appear on pictures waving American flags and look happy). However, Palestinians in the occupied areas and Afghans and Iraqis, rarely have computers and internet access. Lots of Iranians do, though. And as long as the reports from BBC and other international media coincides with the reports from private persons inside Iran, I don't think there is any particular reason to doubt what's happening there right now.

Getting rid of bad things is this world is always good of course, but I wish organisations with resources could focus more on the major problems and less on the more trivial matters. But this is of course related to human functioning, to the fact that it's easier to get donation by evocing people's feelings for a little cute kitten than for 100 species of unknown bugs in the jungle. Like I've said many times before: the proximity principle is man's downfall.

I suppose I could argue with everyone about Iran if people really wanted a debate, but I would promise utter dissapointement and unenlightened discussion the entire time, just to keep my track record going strong.
I am totally disgusted with the president. He should have tried a treaty of some sort. "Let us not spill blood!" would have been a terrific battle cry to rally the American people behind a common flag denouncing such sickening racism. We can drag out negotiations for two weeks. Then the problem will be solved since they will all die of natural causes.
Or he could have tasered them. Isn't that more humane?
In other news, almost a million posts! Wow!

Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

I may be mistaken Loki, but I was pretty sure vBulletin post ids include deleted posts, which don't count towards overall count. Although, the main board I'm on these days is custom-coded, so I'm out of the loop on forum software.
