Sparring with Handmaiden

I've started a new game after a long time away from it. I've completed Telos and had Handmaiden join the party.

When I landed at Nar Shadda, I sparred with Handmaiden, learned the story of her mother, and the story of her father, and talked to Kreia about her. I also gained the special ability from the first match.

I know I need to practice with her three times in order to train her as a jedi, but she keeps telling me I'm not ready for more instruction. Considering that I'm twice her level, (I kept her at 6) I think she's putting on airs.

What do I need to do to convince her to train me? Does she need to level up? Do I?

You need to level up. Once you reach a certain level she will consent to duel with you for the second time. After that you will again need to gain levels in order to duel her for the third and final time. Once all three duels are complete then only can you train her as a jedi.
