I recently got around to installing a copy of windows on my computer and I'm wondering if anyone can suggest some good RPG's?
I'm a huge fan of the BG series, for both the tactical and RP elements. Likewise I quite enjoyed the IWD games for that same tactical element.
I'm looking for some RPG's that have an engaging story, a strong tactical element and/or a strong modding community.
NWN, for example, whilst I didn't like the OC or even the gameplay in general the huge amount of excellent community created mods made it a worthwhile purchase.
So, apparently Dungeon Siege shipped with a level editor? Are there many good RP mods for that?
Also what about Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind? It seems to be quite highly thought of. What is the moding activity like for that?
Basically, can anyone recommend some good RPG's like the BG series, or any RPG with a strong community moding base?
Thanks!!!

Well - if you have played the Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 and Icewind Dale, then PlaneScape:Torment might be of interest to you, if you can find it. It is also old, but has many qualities.
Also - Fallout 1 and 2 are very much worth it, again if you can find them.
Of newer games, Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 are also decent RPGs, and The Witcher is also very much worth a look.
Personally - I'm not a fan of the Elder Scrolls games other then Daggerfall; but if you go for Morrowind and Oblivion, make sure to search for mods to enhance the game. The "vanila" versions in my book are awful and all about graphics and no substance.
Neverwinter Nights 1 (especially expansion packs) and 2 are also decent enough if you have nothing else to play, or just enjoy D&D.

Morrowind and Oblivion are good games... and with possibly the best modding community you can find. But they handle pretty differently from the BG and just about any other RPG that you have played before.
Mass Effect might also be of some interest to you. I dunno bout mods, but it has a pretty engaging story and decent gameplay... despite being a semi-hybrid RPG.

To answer the Dungeon Siege question 1st, there are three mods I am aware of: Ultima 5 Lazarus, Lands of Hyperborea, and Mageworld.
Now since you've a veteran of Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment should be right up your alley. I liked Icewind Dale for the Infinity Engine games I've been thru. Other RPGs to consider include Divine Divinity and Morrowind if you want to have a massive time sink. Or you can go old-school and try Might and Magic 3-6 or some of the Wizardry games(#8 is the swan song). Just a few of many choices you can make.
P.S. - Of the RPGs I mentioned, only Morrowind may tax your system requirements.
I'd rather be part bull than a complete sheep.

I will add my vote to Planescape:Torment, Divine Divinity, and The Witcher. I'll also add Arcanum. These are my top 4 RPG's. There are decent modding communities for Torment and Arcanum, plenty of fan-made mods and adventures (and an adventure editor, Djinni) for the Witcher, but none for Divine Divinity. Story and strategy-wise, all 4 do not disappoint.
