did you do the trial of the elders in arrindale?

This happened to me too. Went through Trial of Elders and got the letter to go to Ulm. When I get to Ulm, the guards attack me instead of letting me in. This seems to happen with all my characters. I've been playing this game for almost 2 years and this is the first time this has happened.

Anybody got any suggestions?

Could it have something to do with accusing House Fathien of having stolen the Argalia when talking to Lord Galebriand before the Trials of the Elders? I never do that, to make sure I receive the Noble heraldry bonus.

No. I've done that before and have never had a problem getting in. This is some kind of bug. And the other thing is, after I talk to Galebriand and he tells me to go to Ulm and gives me a letter, the quest does not show up in my quest log. I went through a lot of trouble getting my character to this point. It would be a shame to have to quit and restart with a brand new character.
