What makes this a good game?

Post by Powercow1681 »

I don't understand why people play it. Everytime I try to go kill something I run out of ammo. I spend hours trying to get some money and I can afford about 20 bullets. All I see is stupid mutants trying to kill me. Is there something I am supposed to do to make this any fun?

What difficult level are you playing?

For saving ammo, there is couple of tricks:
1) V.A.T.S. is your friend. You can play the game as pure shooter, but it's not that efficient. Aim for a head as often as you can, especially if the chance of hitting is over 60%.
2) If you have a hard time on killing something, better run away and return with more powerful weapon and higher skill level with that weapon.
3) If the thing you are fighting against is using melee or unarmed (some humanoids and most animals and insects), use melee as well. You may take a bit hit, but usually you can kill the target with couple of hits.

If you have trouble against mutants (you mean super mutants, right?), you perhaps should stay away the area they are living. super mutants can be very nasty for some time until you get good weapon.

To get money for buying ammo, weapons and other stuff:
1) Scavenge everything you can find and sell.
2) Don't let the NPCs repair your stuff unless there is no other option, as that is very costy. Instead, use repair -skill.
3) don't buy something unless you really need it.
4) Do every quest you can find, as most of them result stuff and/or money.

Some pointers just to get you started. If you still have problem, try playing the game on easiest difficult level till you learn the game better

Sneak is also a good skill to invest in and can go a long way to helping your character survive. If utilized correctly, you will be able to take out entire parties of baddies with weapons such as the Dart Gun or Unique Chinese Assault Rifle.

If killing super mutants doesn't excite you any, then this might not be the game for you.

Good point. The only thing that will vary in the game are the enemies. Other than that, the "fun", as you put it, comes from exploring the huge fallout world, executing brilliant coup-de-grace moves on your enemies using vats and doing the various quests offered by NPCs across the map.

I suppose what makes this game most appealing is its sense of freedom. You can do almost anything you want at anytime. It is a huge sandbox game very much like other Bethesda titles such as the Elder Scrolls series... but, imho, without a good chunk of the quality.
