What is the best way of making gold and what is a good weapon?

Post by Bobbywu »

Hey there, i would like to know what are the easy ways of making gold and im a level 14-15 knight/warrior trying to look for a good weapon im basically looking for a sword and its hard for me to kill fire monsters in the lands of oblivion so i bought a staff, but recharging the staff costs a lot, if you have any ideas please reply to this thread :)

Just start walking around outside a city to find Bandits and Marauders (along the paths). They are leveled to your character so it shouldn't be too difficult to kill them, and if you kill enough of them you should have the best gear your character can use.
Also, you could go dungeon looting, but if your character isnt that tough it could become troublesome because the enemies could gang up on you.
Whatever you acquire that you don't want to keep for yourself, just sell to somebody in a guild (they usually like you more/have a higher disposition towards you, so you can get way better deals).
Alternatively, alchemy can be very useful for making some money. Buy cheap ingredients from stores, whip up a potion and sell it :) . You can look for ingredients yourself of course, but I find it faster to buy from stores if you have a decent amount cash to start with.
The arena is another great way of getting some of money, and again, the enemies are leveled to you, so it's pretty easy.
These are tons more things to do... basically just doing anything makes you money I suppose.

Hope this helped a bit :)

stable cash flow (spoiler bonanza)

You can loot dungeons & fallen enemies for cash, but that's wildly unpredictable. Here are a few ideas to generate more stable cash flow (if you need more details on any of the specific quests mentioned below, search the forum - I think they all have a thread or two devoted to them).

Easy money: If you complete all the FG quests and become Guildmaster, order Modryn to focus on getting more contracts. Once per month you can find your cut stashed in the Guildmaster's Chest, upstairs in the Chorrol Guild Hall. Likewise, if you complete all the DB quests and become Listener, once per week you can get a new "contract" from the statue of the Lucky Old Lady (aka The Night Mother) in Bravil. Pass the contract on to the Speaker in the Cheydinhal sanctuary to collect your cut.

Arena: keep fighting in the Arena until you become the Grand Champion. The cash prizes get progressively larger as you advance in rank, and once you're Grand Champion you can fight beasts once per week. Cash prize (and beast difficulty) varies with your level, but it's in the neighborhood of a couple grand. Plus you get to practice combat skills in a controlled environment.

Alchemy for profit: Harvest every vegetable in every farm and garden you come across, every herb and wildflower you see in towns or the wilderness, every exotic ingredient you find on the bodies of your enemies (bonemeal, troll fat, scamp skin, ectoplasm, everything). Buy all the low-budget alchemy ingredients (foodstuffs, mostly) from inns & shops (but nothing that costs more than a couple gold). Make any potions you want to keep and set 'em aside. Now make a variety of test potions out of the remaining ingredients and sell them (try the alchemy shop in the Imperial City, or most of the general merchandise shops in the other cities) to figure out what fetches the highest price. (Also check out prices on what they're selling). Then make as much as you can of the best sellers and sell 'em. Most plants (and enemies in dungeons) eventually respawn, so keep a list of locations where you find ingredients for pricey potions and check back periodically to repeat the process.

Fearless Vampire Slayer: After you complete the quest for the Order of the Virtuous Blood, Roland will give you 250 GP for every pile of vampire dust you bring him. Keep a note of any cave where you find vampires. Most of them respawn every few days, so if you rotate through them you can keep the cash coming.

good weapons

Best sword depends on your attributes, skills and personal preference. Shortswords are fast, longswords are slower but do more damage and have a longer reach. Claymores are devastating but slooooow and you can't use a shield (a shield blocks more effectively than your weapon, and it gives you one more item that can hold a defensive enchantment, so I don't tend to use two-handed weapons).

Weapon composition is important too. Silver weapons do mid-range damage and can hit non-corporeal creatures like ghosts (a sword of any other material has to be enchanted to hit them). Daedric weapons are rare (and heavy) but do severe damage; maybe worth the extra weight if you have high STR. For me, glass weapons have the perfect combination of light weight and lethal damage.

As far as enchantments, any Destruction effect is pretty good but there are a few creatures (especially atronachs) that resist any given effect. (e.g. a blade enchanted with Frost damage will tear up Flame Atronachs, but won't hurt Frost Atronachs nearly as much). For my money, Absorb Health is the best all-around enchantment for a blade - it hurts them and heals you simultaneously. You'll have to recharge any enchanted weapon periodically, but usually not as often as a staff.

alchemy is good, also once you hit level twenty daedric stuff starts randomly spawning, which you can not only sell for a lot of money, but the swords are some of the best...
spolier
or if you like cheating theres the dorian infinite money glitch. go to the imperial city talos plaza, and enter dorian house. bribe him with some gold, then get his disposition under twenty. kill him and take the gold from his body, you'll get it but it won't disappear. keep button mashing to get the desired amount.
also theres the multipling items glitch. get a bow and two sets of arrows. equip one set draw the bow but before you draw it all the way enter the menu. double click on the other set of arrows, it will say you can't equip but will. before you exit drop the item you want to multiply (doesn't work on some things nirnroot, daedric artifatcs, etc.), it will be droped but there will be as many of it as the second set of arrows (keep amount under 100). sell copies for gold

"best" possible weapon material is ebony. Easiest way to find ebony weapons and armor (armor is heavy, but veeery expensive. Sells for 1k and up.) is to complete the "Caught in the hunt" quest. Start it by speaking to Ursanne Locke in Bravil.
