What words can I say?

Post by Sain »

What words that would be considered bad, naughty, swearing, etc, can I say on the forums? I don't really care about swearing, but also don't wish to build up very many demerit points.

Basically, the really egregious stuff is blocked by the filter ;)
Best way to test it is to pretend to reply to a post and write whatever comes to mind. Then, instead of hitting "submit reply" hit "preview."
Anything not considered acceptable will show up as little stars, like so:
"****"

Word of warning, don't try to get around the filter by using something like "!" instead of "i"
That will get you into trouble :D

Yes, I read about !----! thing, I'm smart enough to know thats a bad idea, as 99.99% of all posts are read before the first 10 minutes by a moderator.

*Edit-Thanks, that clarifies many a question, too bad I can't say sh--(Is using that for an example OK?)*

Remember that the forums are for all ages, so even if language isn't filtered by the language filter, it might still be inappropriate due to context or similar.

Don't worry, I may not find swearing offensive, but I CAN see how context can offensive without swearing, ex.Euphanisms.

But if you have dared to venture into SYM, where the truly twisted of mind lurk, be prepared to be offended in the most subtle ways. Some of us here can insult without having to resort to foul language. Fable is the true master of the art, even accepting lollipops from him risks getting you offended in ways you never before imagined possible.

You talk like it's hard to insult someone without swearing.

Like Xandax said, content can get you in trouble too.

@Sain: We appreciate your extra effort in having the rules clarified, being new in this forum. :)

A suggestion: Try reading through some of the threads and posts here to have a feel on how things are carried here.

People can still have lots of fun here without having to go beyond the parameters of the rules in this forum ;)

Welcome aboard.

A logical paradox:

1) Inappropriate jokes are usually not good

2) A good joke is usually inappropriate
