The magic system?

Post by probo »

I have so far only played a knight, but i started a mage just to test it out, but it doesent seem like they get to keep fireing the magic missiles(or whatever they were), you only get to shoot 2 times, then you need to find additional books of magic missile? and they cost like 2000 ? so you basicly pay 2000 for 1 magic ?

or does the charges regenerate? if so, how long does that take? and also, if you have many books, does all of them regenerate?

I usually just want my mages to be like in diablo/wow or something, just using magic, not a hybrid, a mage should be able to rely solely on magic imo! So is any of the magic classes like a consistent way of fighting ? maybe the ones with nether katals? but it seems to be the same there, you waste the whole spell whenever you use it? not just the ingredients?

yeah, what u just suggested a mage is like in this game is also what I've heard... not a real spellcaster is my opinion... that's why I've also became a fighter instead, but my br0ther became a Mage... but I know a way how to recharge... they recharge over time but you can speed trough the time when ur next to a campfire (I only know 2 spots, just outside fargoth where u begin and near lake dreath when u crossed a bridge)... but if you can only recharge that way I shouldn't waste ur time on it...

Maybe someone else can help you more,

Thanks for responding there! yeah! thats what i was thinking too, maybe u could recarhge the books, and since u say u can recharge, i think thats propably gonna be good enough reason to try a mage! i mean, you get alot of books really, and if you prioritize to get many books instead of armor etc for ure money, i think u could get a nifty collection of magics u can cast, and then when u need to recharge u find a campfire, and then viola, 50 spells to cast again, or something like that!

It also says that u get more dmg/larger aoe radius and such if u get more points in the arcane skill, so maybe u can become a really powerfull mage :D

when you find additionaly books it allows you to cast that particular spell another time for each book. once you become either a sorcerer or battlemage (both are tier 2) you get a skill called scribe which increase the rate at which you regain your spells.

anyway, if you think about your tactics than you can rely solely on your spells but you'll have to use more than just arcane magic. i'd also try nether magic and use some of the summoning spells to summon monsters to aid you and keep your opponents occupied while you blast them with a fireball or magic missle.

of course, the biggest problem with relying on magic is that it's expensive. those arcane spells aren't cheap.

Game balancing between professions is currently off, and (supposedly) one of the items to be addressed in the 1.2 patch.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

i think if they significantly reduced how long it takes to replenish your arcane spells and/or their cost in shops than being a spellcaster will be more manageable.

P.S. I LOVE FIRES they are so helpfull

P.P.S I presently have 34 fireballs sometimes i go to a fireplace start then pull out a book because to charge 34 fireballs takes time my friend. the trick is to never give up on your mage and have good armor

If you want to be a real mage and not have to revert to anything else, here is what you do. Keep in mind the first levels before you get it right will be tuff on you.

First thing you go, if you dont want to powerlevel on moonbeasts (thats an other story) are the shacks east from where you start. You stay there untill level 5ish. It helps to play on increased spawns so it goes faster, later on it wont matter there is more to kill itll be easy.
Anyways you raise bargain skill to 5 or 6 if you have enough points to do it. Then you leave for sewers and raise your honour to 40-45 depending on howfast you run through. Usually I make sure i'm level 8 before I leave sewers. it should give enough skillpoints to get bargain and honour up to said levels and still have enough skillpoints left to raise up picklocking to loot them locked chests. Then when you have all that, go to mages guild shop and joining the mages guild.
Go to the Temple of the Circene, do the deliver the letter quest when he opens the door, save your game, then loot the two cabins on the left of the door. Make sure it drops an expensive rune stone. Like 4-5k worth. Might not drop right away, reload if it doesnt and loot the cabins again untill it drops. Get quest for the tombs if it does and return to mages guild to go sell your stuff and the runestone.

Due to your influence and bargaining skill you can now make profit. Sell for more then you buy it for. You can sell and rebuy the stone with increased numbers since you will be making money more and more. Rince and repeat untill you have so much cash you have enough to buy the whole friggin town. Then buy fireballs and wich ever spell you might like.
if your patient enough you can get 9999 fireballs easy.
You will never have to revert to melee or archery ever again :) You can do the same for any spell or even nether catals. Dont do it on nether spells it self because spells are much more expensive then the total of the nether catals used to make it, so if you want lots of nether spells buy the ingredients, not the spells.

Hope this helps.

Oh yes, the reason why I use rune stones is because every time you sell a stack, you can buy that stack an unlimited times again, same goes for celestial crystals. Spellbooks however dont, so its better to use expensive crystals or expensive rune stones, much faster. The bigger the number, the better your profit will be.
