Making a pure slinger.

Post by Vhan Tiegros »

Hey all. I've been through kotor before, and almost everytime I've used a lightsaber. But now, I want to create a kick ass gunslinger and run through much of the game calo-nord style, quickly gunning down anyone stupid enough to stand in front of my double set of pistols.

Obviously, this build is going to need a lot of dodging power. So advice on becoming a hard pistol whipping spider man?

Your starting stats should include a dex attribute of at least 16, and con of 14. Id suggest a starting class of either scoundrel or soldier. If you pick a scoundrel, multiclass to a guardian, for the bonus hp, base attack bonus and defense. If you go with soldier, then pick a sentinel. A consular will work poorly for a slinger class as he has too low a BAB and defense bonuses.

Generally multiclassed characters with a soldier/guardian class tend to have lots of feats, which is why i recommended either. If you go with a scoundrel to guardian build, i'd recommend taking the scoundrel to at least level 6 before multiclassing, just to get his improved scoundrel's luck feat which will add a hearty bonus to ur defense.

If you want a soldier/sentinel, take the soldier class as high as you can go. The feats he gains at each level can be pretty darn useful. Take stuff like toughness, rapid shot, weapon focus/specialization and two weapon fighting. Force powers should be spent on the Burst of Speed series of powers. Also get stun/insanity, depending on your alignment choice. Energy and force resistance should also be considered as they can help you out against lightsaber wielding opponents, where deflection becomes a real pain, and you will have to rely on shields.

I found further advice on this build in the GB strategy guides list. Hope that helps

Check out Exiled Knight's Gunslinger Guide. It got me through once as a dual wielding pistol guy though it was a little harder than he made it seem lol.

@Loki[D.d.G]

You gave some sound advice though I would personally recommend at least 7 levels of Scoundrel for that extra Sneak Attack level. Another thing is that Soldier/Sentinels suck pure and simple. I actually tried it once and it was just horrible. I had the same amount of feats as a Soldier/Consular of my level without Force Focus or any good special feats. Well, the Immunities come in handy on Korriban and during some Jedi battles, but that is negligible with the right armor/implant or the Mind Numbing Belt.

The CON of 14 isn't always sound advice since a true ranged warrior would never get in close with his blasters. 10 or 12 is fine for a Soldier though 14 would be good for a Scoundrel is you have trouble with the hit and run strategy.

I have found that Sniper Shot and Power Blast serve better than rapid shot in most cases even with the supposed Master Speed glitch. Two criticals with a possible stun is worth it and you don't even need to level any of those two up with the right gear :D

So, I would start with a 15 in DEX, an 8 in STR, 14 in INT, 12 in CON and 14 in CHA and WIS for Force Points and DCs. Pool your points into DEX and get some good implants. Should be enough to get you around. Also, Consular would be a sound choice as well since you have a higher DC for stunning powers and more Force points to waste in close combat for powers such as Wave and Destroy Droid.

Still, what do I know? Read the guide I gave you a link to. That would probably help a lot more than I am lol.

Having a low CON attribute would provide problems with 1v1 combat, of which there are a scattered few. Also going up against lightsaber wielding opponents might be more cause for concern if they manage to deflect your shots.

Actually, I have found that merely equipping a good energy shield or casting Improved Energy resistance is a lifesaver in those situations. In a one-on-one situation your best bet is to shoot repeatedly, spam Force Wave, back away and repeat until your opponent is dead. Most of the one-on-one battles are either at the end of the game or on Korriban and still there are only three or four in total. If you are talking about Taris then the dueling ring sucks either way. Marl is a bitch unless you shoot and run in the same turn thus taking away his ability to strike back. And Bendak? A good energy shield, a few concussion grenades as well as a couple of plasma should take him down. And if he's not dead after the plasma, sneak attack his stunned butt to death. For the Korriban one, just spam Force Wave since even if it is resisted your opponent is thrown back and use an energy shield/improved energy resistance to prevent slaughter by lightsaber. Oh, and Improved Energy resistance has worked for me against Slow/Infliction/Plague making it even better in my opinion. And a CON of 12 nets you an extra VP per level capping out at 20. Add another two from Improved Toughness and you no longer have to worry about CON. That is around 60 extra VP at level 20. Pretty good even if you only get 172 VP. Still quite a bit. And if you get Master toughness, 80 VP + 172 VP = semi tank. Of course, the true tank would have a CON of 16 and play as a Soldier/Guardian with Master Toughness giving him an amazing 320 VP not including CON bonuses or Master Valour. But either way 252 VP is pretty darn good :D

I thought the best gunslingers would come from kotor 2 because of there is a **** ton more blaster oriented feats,but hell rpg's are for trying and experimenting with different game types.Altho kotor 1 provides many other npc's to do the gunslingin' for u (HK-47 FOR THE WIN!!!!!!!) :) :) :)
