vows and oaths
hi, my group has just started using 3.5 after giving 4th ed a whirl and the monk im playing is taking a couple of vows but we cant find the book that has them in. the vows that i am likely to be taking are - Vow of Poverty, Vow of Silence and an Oath of Neutality. If anyone can point us in the right direction it would be of great help and if anyone has any suggestions on my vows they are more than welcome aswell.

Vow of Silence isn't from Exalted Deeds, so only Vow of Poverty remains.
If your DM is stingy with treasure, then it's a very good feat. If he gives you the treasure you should get (according to the wealth by level table, DMG p.135), then it will make you weaker.
Generally, the feat provides less benefit than level-equivalent gear would. And don't doubt it, as a Monk you'll need gear more than most. One thing that Vow of Poverty doesn't provide, is a way to fly and increase your mobility. IF you lack that, it's painful at high levels.
All in all, it depends on the DM. If he runs D&D "by the rules", then it's a weak feat. If he's stingy, then it's great.

Vow of Poverty is good if you have a character that focuses primarily on hand to hand combat or is a shapeshifter.
Monk/Sacred Fist and Druid/Master of Many Forms are two good examples of a character who could really make use of Poverty.
Otherwise, it's a useless feat in general. If you're playing a monk, I'd advise against going straight monk. Get a prestige class to compliment it such as Tattooed monk or Sacred Fist. Don't get me wrong, Monk is good as a stand alone class, but you will need equipment with it at higher levels to actually matter on most occasions. So...since Vow of Poverty gets rid of that possibility, you'll need some extra abilities from another source and you can't get much better than flaming and holy fists.
