Best light armor
Best light armor
Hey, I am not a big user of heavy armor, so I'd like to know what you guys think the best possible light armor is. Currently wearing DB shrouded armor due to all the attribute bonuses. Any insight on the subject is welcome!

Best Light Armor (SPOILER ALERT!)
I've found that the best light armor in the game so far is the Shrouded Armor that you get as soon as you join the Dark Brotherhood. It fortifies your Sneak, Illusion, Marksman, Blade, and Acrobatics by 8, and has a DR of 11 at 100% repair. You get it just for joining the Brotherhood, and it has a matching hood that raises those same skills by 2 more points. The downside: aside from rings and amulets, you can't equip anything else: no boots or bracers. You can use a different helmet though. SPOILER FOLLOWS!!!
Although weak in melee, you don't have to worry about it if you follow through on the Brotherhood quests. If you get to the point where Lucien Lachance orders the Purification of the Chedyinhal (sp?) sanctuary, you get ALL of their Shrouded Armors and hoods as well. being that the armor only weighs 2 lbs., you're talking 10 lbs. for 5 sets of armor you can change at will. Also, no matter how broken the armor gets, it only costs 1 gold to repair it! Anywhere!

Since I'm running a lot of mods, there are all sorts of light armors out there with excellent stats. My current character's too young to find or afford them just yet, however.
Glass has always been light and high value in ES games. I remember hungrily eying a glass sword on display in Daggerfall, when that game first came out. 14,000 gold at the time: beyond my non-cheesy PC.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Which is probably why a fullset of enchanted glass armor would trump it in all aspects, assuming, of course, a vanilla Oblivion. Mods are pretty subjective, so you can freely disregard fable's first statement.sithlord74 wrote:The downside: aside from rings and amulets, you can't equip anything else: no boots or bracers.
But technically I'd agree that the DB shrouded armor is one of the better sets of apparel available to the player early on in the game.

Best of all is no armour at all, just enchanted clothing with Fire Shield, Frost Shield and Shock Shield on 3 items (eg, tunic/pants/shoes), and whatever you like on hood and gauntlets (gauntlets being the only armour item you need, 'cos you cant get gloves), rings and amulet.
It's also handy to have extra items enchanted with things like Waterwalking, Night Eye, Detect Life, Waterbreathing, etc. Some items of clothing have 0 weight, so are very good to use.

Light Armor
I'm bouncing back and forth right now with the light armor situation. Right now I've got a couple different sets of enchanted glass armor; some culled from victims, some enchanted by myself. I've still got the DB Shrouded Armor but it's be coming quickly obsolete. At the higher levels it gets torn through and unless you have Journeyman in Armor, you will be SOL quick with it. However, if you get far enough in the quest that you get to be the Listener, you'll get the DB Robes, which aren't armor therefore you don't have to worry about it degrading, and the bonuses are better. However, both suffer the problem that you can't wear boots, greaves or gloves with them. I did find, on a random loot, a Russet Felt Outfit of Blade Turning...however, that was with my character who's currently an expert in both heavy armor and armorer, so it's effectively useless for her. If you can find it, it's pretty sweet; it's got 11% resistence to normal weapons. I can't remember where I got it though. If in doubt, go with glass, and keep the DB armor with you for stealth missions, as it still weighs a pittance and you can pretty much keep it on you at all times. The problem I keep running into with a Stealth character is one of weight; it's annoying having to keep running back to my hovel in the Imperial Waterfront or Deepscorn Hollow to dump my goods I've deemed good enough to keep, and you can only have so many feather or strength items on at once.

Why don't you stack feather spells and potions? Can potentially double your carrying capacity. Of course, you need to be able to craft spells to fully reap the benefits.sithlord74 wrote:The problem I keep running into with a Stealth character is one of weight; it's annoying having to keep running back to my hovel in the Imperial Waterfront or Deepscorn Hollow to dump my goods I've deemed good enough to keep, and you can only have so many feather or strength items on at once.

I just started doing that. I've created spells to boost my strength and feather at the same time, and they usually work pretty good, except when I get too greedy with the Daedric booty My stealth character has Alchemy, Mysticism and Destruction as major skills, so I've been working on improving her Alteration and Restoration skills. I've also created an entire set of Glass Armor all with strength enhancements in honor of my favorite Marvel superhero, the Hulk (it's green ain't it ) Not so good for stealth but I've got other stuff to help with stealth.Loki[D.d.G] wrote:Why don't you stack feather spells and potions?
