Minsc disppeared - Twisted rune

Post by Thing »

After several unsuccessful attempts at the Twisted rune brigade I finally succeeded, only to find Minsc's portrait disappearing at the last moment. I can find no trace of an imprisonment spell and can only assume that he was massively crushed or hacked to pieces so as to be impossible to resurrect. if I were a saint I'd reload from a saved game just before teleporting to twisted rune and start over ......, but after 30+ attempts I don't feel the inclination.

I'm considering :
  1. use shadow keeper to identify all Minsc's characteristics just before Twisted Rune
  2. Clua console him back in
  3. use shadow keeper to adjust inventory and characteristics back to whatthey were
Can anyone see a simpler solution or can they comment on the above suggestion?

Thanks
Any other bright ideas welcome !

You've probably heard it before, but back up your saved game before you try this.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I've completed the twisted rune tons of times usinmg multiple strategies, but every once in a while I'll still get it completely handed to me by that group.

I wonder if Minsc got stunned and then level drained to death, can;t quite remember what happens when you get level drained down to nothing but I think its pretty bad.
:) Once again time to give someone the boot to make room for Coran. LOL :)

I recall that happening to me with Valugar. He got hit by the Beholder's Flesh to Stone, then by cause wounds. Stone chunked. Try using items. Protection from evil/baldur's shield/amulet of power/daystar/valitor's helm and all you have to fear is the lich.

Thanks for the comments. I reckon I will
  1. keep my save from before Twisted Rune
  2. open my save "post twisted rune" with no Minsc
  3. Clua Console friend Minsc back into the post twisted rune version, save under a new name and then use Shadow Keeper to re-set his attributes and inventory to what is what before - I don't think I can bring myself to give him the experience points :) he would have earned from Twisted Rune

The thrill and fun of the twisted runes - I suggest doing it again - its a great battle and some nice loot at the end for those that survive it. I remember being blasted to nothing the first few times I tried it - how discouraging to see all your characters get blown away without killing even one enemy much less seeing all of them.

After being defeated a few times with different strategies and tactics - one eventually worked and viola you defeat the bad guys.

I was wondering has anyone tried to go back to the twisted runes after you left it? You mentioned Misnc disappeared maybe when you left the runes you accidentally left Minsc back there? Was his picture not there or was it just grayed out? Or did Misnc get hit by that spell the sends him to a prison and you forgot to wait out the time for him to be released (Misnc afterall is not to bright so it takes a while for him to reappear)?

Hi Sensei

The problem occurred IN the Twisted Rune area and his picture is not greyed out (dead) - it's just gone (imprisoned or so badly hacked/crushed that hit points are negative). Freedom spells won't recover him so I can only assume he is "mega-dead" and unrecoverable.

Out of pure stubbornness I re-tried last night and finally beat all the opposition - ending up with minimal hit points remaining on my NPC but with ALL the other party members dead - thank God for the rod of ressurection and a stack of resurrection spells with the first mage I resurrected ....

The strategy was to place lots of summonsed creatures in the main area, pull everyone back into the little room on the left where you arrive and to take out the opposition one-by-one - lots of extra health potions and fire resistance help survive the meteor storm and the summoned creatures used up most of the spell attacks. Shield of Balduran helped with the beholder. It was still hellishly close ! Extremely satisfying :)

Hi Thing

I just remembered that on my last time through the twisted runes - Minsc disappeared on me as well during the battle because one of the mages hit him with an imprisonment spell but I was able to last until he was released. So I was lucky that I got Minsc back.

Its very satisfying isn't it to finally defeat them all and do a good deed in the process. I used a lot of summonings and protections spells and potions to battle them - used I think 10 charges on my monster summoning + all the summoning spells my 3 casters could cast and all my spells (offensive and defensive) and it was a very close battle as it always is. I think the worse battle was the one in which the final mage was able to summon a djinn which I could not kill - so when I finally defeated her I grabbed everyone and some of the loot and left after summoning some monsters to distract the djinn and ran away as quick as possible.
