I love using the bow with sneak, but still once I beat the main quest and don't have to worry about ruining the game anymore, its fun just to walk up to someone and slash them in the face a couple times then just pay my fee and find someone else.

Blade, HtoH, magic and marksman are all my favourites.
Blade because there are so many varietys of them, and they are quicker to use, and are much easier to find.
Hand to Hand because it just gives me the coolest feeling when i punch out dremora with a couple of hits.
Marksman because it can either be really cool or really funny where the arrow ends up (ex. its really cool when u shoot a scamp in the eye , and really funny when there is an arrow sticking out of its butt.:laugh
Magic because it just plain looks cool. plus, its just more fun (and easier) to be a mage or healer in oblivion. in morrowwind it was really hard, especially since u always had to keep switching from weapon mode to casting mode with a storm atronach repeatedly hitting you.

The Weak Shall Die So The Strong Shall Prevail, Victory Before Peace, Morrowwind ROCKS
I started with Blade and maxed it out to 100. Then I picked up Blunt and maxed that to 100 as well. Both are very even. The daedric mace does the same damage as a daedric longsword. yes, i believe the Mace is heavier, but oh well.
now I picked up a bow and am attempting to max it out, but its soooo slow to level up because it takes more time to battle someone with just a bow and arrow.
i also like using destruction and see 3 bandits fly through the air with a fireball

Hand to Hand
I have two characters running on the XBox: one is a marksman/blade/destruction thief/assassin/vampire, and yes QUITE evil and terribly effective. The other is the closest Paladin approximation I could concoct: blunt weapons only, never fired a bow, use some destruction in a pinch but have worked out a system with restoration and conjuration magic that is quite effective, along with my paralyzation staff from the Mage's Guild, she is straight out beat you down.
But now I'm starting a game on the PC based on the Bene Gesserit witches in Dune, and she's going to be Imperial, of course, with skills in Hand-to-Hand (just because I haven't tried it yet) Speechcraft (cuz bribes can get REALLY expensive), Mercantile, Illusion, Restoration, Security and Sneak. Basically a not-quite-good Rogue-type character, but not as serial-killer evil as my vampire character. I am seriously considering adding either blade or marksman, simply because I can't poison my fists, and the Bene Gesserit are all about the poison, but I don't want to get entrenched in using blades, even though they are simply the best weapons to have. Maybe one or two daggers, and a magical item to boost my hand-to-hand skillz. Thoughts?

Regarding Speechcraft and the price of bribes...

I love speechcraft in Morrowind.. but in Oblivion I hate that stupid minigame, so I avoid it completely. Instead, I have a character skilled in Illusion.. I buy a Charm spell, and once I'm able, I make a spell that is something like 100 points Charm on target/touch for 3 seconds...
Works.. well.. like a charm, and once the spell wears off, the NPC's disposition to you remains the same as it was originally (i.e it doesn't drop).
This may sound cheesy.. but like I said... I despise the minigame, it's really immersion-breaking.

The mini-game is actually quite easy, once you have mastered it, and requires little to no thinking (which is what I feel Bethesda intended when they concocted it).
But, do you think it is wise to add both security and mercantile as main skills? For one, mercantile is the hardest skill to level, assuming a vanilla Oblivion. And as for security, once you get the Skeleton Key, you automatically gain 40 bonus points to it, effectively denying you four levels. Well, technically you can work around it, but it is quite troublesome. Forgive the nitpicking, I'm not in the best of moods right now.
P.S Voted on blades. Shortswords FTW.

Daggers are good, and you can enchant 'em with whatever you like, when you have the facilities to do so - which includes Sigil stones, obviously. You can also find the odd enchanted dagger, which is nice. I think I have only used H2H once, and not for long - I succumbed to the lure of nice enchanted blades... :laugh:sithlord74 wrote:I have two characters running on the XBox: one is a marksman/blade/destruction thief/assassin/vampire, and yes QUITE evil and terribly effective. I don't mind the mini-game. It's pretty quick and easy to do once you get the hang of it, and all you have to do to get the hang of it is to slide your cursor onto each segment without clicking, watch the face and note what they love, like, dislike, and hate. No big. When you know what works with the npc, start in, remembering to keep the smallest bit in hate and dislike, and the biggest bits in love and like, wherever possible. And you will soon find it's always possible to put the little bit into hate!

Hand to hand is pretty useful against NPC opponents if you have damage/drain fatigue spells. Using a hand to hand/spell combo will allow you to achieve multiple knockdowns on hapless enemies. Just keep punching away and they wont even be able to get back up and retaliate.Fljotsdale wrote:I think I have only used H2H once, and not for long
Too bad the NPC opponents are too stupid to require bothering with such creative methods in order to take them out. It's amusing though.
