It's not out.
Due to some huge bugs they found in multiplayer it's been delayed into next year. =(

Oh. That would likely explain the absences of posts in this forum. :)

Personally i'm looking forward to this game almost as much as Warcraft 3 and Shadowbane. i think it'll be great. its got some great features and customisability. they've even show that they're able to cut back their original design to make a stable game.

the design is a rather lofty goal as well. to make a game that imerses you in it. right from the start. acording to the press reports the game opens up, shows a logo, then you start the game. tada. from then on its seemless no load times with lots of stuff to do.

the character advancement isn't point based, its based on what you have the character do.

you'll start off with 4 items. a bow, a sword, and two others (i forget). which item you use, and use the most, will dictate what your good at later on. so if you use the bow exclusively, then your going to be an archer. simple eh?

i'm really hoping this game comes out with the fewest bugs as possable, so people don't shun it. i feel it'll be a beauty.

Saw a screenshot and little one-page article in PC Gamer this month - this game looks incredible!!!! I am now quite excited about it - it sounds innovative and like a real step forward (don't know what the system requirements will be <dread...> )
May you walk on warrrrm sannd....

I'm afraid for all the ad&d games that are released in the same period as NWN that they will be lost in it's shadow.
Just look at all the attantion NWN has gotten (at least were I live and on this board), most games aren't so "alive" jet...
Guinness is good for you.
Gives you strength.

that's good, because the people that wind up getting it wont be on the banwagon. they'll be in it because they know something about the games they get and will have an actual interest in them. it also means that they've done their reasearch and are going out to buy the game that is the best.

NWN being a sucess is not a guarantee, things could happen. if they were to have a bad realease, and suddenly reviews of DS come pooring in that "wow, this is a steller game!" you might see a change in focus.

hopefully they'll both be good, and DS will have a cult following much like TA had for the same dev's before.

Well, it's good to see some more people posting here now! There were three (I think) DS forums here before, but they melted them down and reincarnated them into these two new ones. I seem to have lost my registration through that time too, but oh well. Probably 'cause it unfortunately never got used much here....

Anyways...
a few clarifications and answers for ya:
There are a few things you do before you jump into the game. These are picking a name for your primary character, as well as their gender, hair, shirt, face, and pants. The next screen asks difficulty (Easy, Medium, or Hard). And then you're off on your adventure, no load times other than the first one as promised.
It's one thing to hear about having no load times, but it's another to be playing (E3 2001) and realize you haven't had to load since you started.

Way way way way back, it was planned that you would either select a sword, a bow, or a magic scroll at the beginning. However, I guess that sort of took you a little out of the game, and currently, you are automatically equipped with (I think) a pitchfork (you are a farmer at the beginning after all), but you will have access to a bow, a Nature Magic spell, and a Combat Magic spell within the first few yards of your house.

As for the system requirements... well... hmm... that may come as a bit of a shock.
But a good one. :)
The low end for DS will probably be a PII 300mhz with a Voodoo 3 video card. And according to the devs, it still looks great on machines of that caliber. (Some unneccessary details like dynamic shadows, and bushes and grass should of course be turned off on those machines.)

Also, in case you hadn't heard, the new release date has been announced: April 2002.

I have heard....

DS looks very sweet and if it's done right will be...if not then it goes in the poopy pile :(

personally....my list for 2002
-NWN ;)
-DS
-WC3
-WoWC (got my fingers crossed)
-TFC2 (got to frag once in awhile)

btw....it'll be very hard to beat the AD&D rule system in an RPG...they are tried and true and come strait from the pen and paper game not to mention how dedicated AD&D peeps are (I been in it over 15yrs). Any company using this rule system to make a RPG has a huge advantage over all others out there...reasons, a solid backbone to build on (classes, monsters, equiptment, spells, characters) and there are tons upon tons of great stories already there to work with...the result is a tight game that is easier and fast to produce than a full scale ground up RPG that is done from scratch.
