Should I buy it or not?

The title says it all. In view of the mixed comments regarding this game, should I buy it?

I love BG2 & Planetscape Torment. Will I like DS?

No. The games flare will run out in 30 minutes. Try downloading the demo, if you still find yourself enrapt after finishing that, wait until it comes down in price.

The game is visually stunning and has great music. The play is lacking and boring and you don't really develop any liking to the characters in your party.

Morrowind is right around the corner.

yup it sucks dont buy it unless you like playing hacknslack lol

if you are a A&D player you will hate it even more... i finnished the game in 4 days and i did EVERYTHING like quests and all that... the world is caged in like a quake game, so you go on one path thats it. There is no other paths to go to towns, and once the enemies are dead there dead for good.

the multiplay sucks too there is no save feature so you have to do them over and over again, however the mutliplay is alot harder, but the single player is very easy even on the hard setting.

i defeated the main boss without a scrach,,, it was waaay to easy.

the story is horrible as well.

im buying elderscrolls morrowind today maybe you should check that out too ;)

you seem to also like the same type of rollplaying games as i do as well. So i think you may agree with me if you ever tried it... you like rollplaying games that require alot of thinking, stradegy in battle and knowing when to pick a fight and when not too. You like an indepth story with being able to explore a world that isnt so small, but like real life when it is huge and the possiblitys are endless...hopfully once i fire up the morrowind cd tonight morrowind will be better then bg1 and 2 ;)

howver baldurs gate 1 and 2 are going to be really hard to top off lol :D

Darkstone and a Half!!!

I just downloaded the demo today, and finished it in a few hours. It's 10% of the game just in case anyone wanted to know. Here's my take on the game. I think it's just a souped up Darkstone, which is good in a way. If the game was only cheaper I'd definately buy it. It's a good change, but I wouldn't pay $45 for it. The only major thing I don't like about it is that there's no character creation what-so-ever. You could go through the whole game using just melee weapons and your guy/gal would be unbeatable the way this is set up. But it's one of the better games in that type... I'd play it over Diablo any day. So for anyone looking to buy it try out the demo, it's ~187 MB and my cable modem finished in just over 9 min. So yea, if you like Darkstone, but wish it could be a little better, give the demo a try. I'm definately buying this game once the price drops $10.

yes it's not for everyone just make shure you read alot of editorials on it, and some FAQ sheets on websites before buying it. If you liked diablo 1 or 2 you will probably like DS, but for myself i hated those games cuz I'm a tottally differn't type of rollplayer then some of you are. My brother (34) likes DS and he's still playing it... there are some bugs in the game, and the AI can get frustrating, but it happins with all games these days, because they are brought out on the market so early these days.

the charecter generation isn't that great, but you build and charecter into more and more as you use your skills more and turn into that peticular class.

For instance nature magic takes alot longer to level up then combat magic does. You can also multi class your charecters as well. I don't like this game simply, because it was to easy for me, and there was only one quest in it (Go destroy the Seck, and there leader).. the main boss like I said before was a joke.. all I had to do was have 1 healer heal the party continuasly, and the rest fight the seck leader.... i started to actually laugh when i first encountered him, because he only took 30 - 60 hit points off me when i had a total of 1024/1024 HP!

but later on it got a bit more harder, but still was very easy. You can, also continue your travels after you have finnished the single player and go to multiplayer.. there a whole new world, and differnt places and new stuff to do, but the enemies are alot weaker on normal mode then single player.... you also cannot have your own party on multiplayer which really cheesed me off... so you can only use your main charecter thats it.

and say if you want to consentrate on just combat magic for single player and then on multiplayer start working on your fighting skills... well once my strength started going up right on the 53rd level my charecter actually decreased in strength by 2!!!... so i was like wtf?... after all that hard work i decided to uninstall the game and hand it over to my brother and let him enjoy it.... because i hated that game LOL, but like i said some of you may like hack slash games... so my opinion means nothing... just if you liked baldurs gate1 and 2 and iwd... dont expect much from DS.

the muliplayer has no save feature so you will have to do the quests over and over again. The only way to finnished everything on multiplayer would be to have your computer running for 80 - 90 hrs and have your server up.

like according to your level you can start in differnt towns, but lets say if you just completed a quest in that town lastnight you will have too do it all over again, because everything resets when you return to the multiplayer world in DS.

... i almost threw DS out the door at that point on a friday afternooon LOL

Dungeon Siege

If you like the BG series, then don't expect DS to be like it in the slightest. It's a different sort of game altogether, and comparing the two is much like comparing apples to rutabagas. Like rutabagas?

I've played through BG so much that I fear I've worn grooves in the CDs. Therefore I'm eagerly awaiting the release of Neverwinter Nights, and thought I'd kill some time by trying Dungeon Siege out. For it's genre, it's fine. If you like good graphics, nice music, and combat-oriented play, then try it out. If you're seeking character development and story involvement, then it will disappoint you. I didn't know what to expect when I bought it, for I've paid little attention to all the press releases surrounding the game.

Do I like it? I think it's aptly named, and hack and slash becomes boring after a few hours. So, I'd rate it a 3 on a 1-10 scale. On the graphics and sound side, I'd give it a 9. There's only three stats and a handful of skills to develop. These only develop during combat, which happens constantly. I bought it Friday night, and I'm just about to go into the Eastern Swamps. I think I'll go ahead and finish the game, then sell it on Ebay. :)

Hi,

I enjoyed the game, Stop analyzing it and just play it. We buy these games for the the fun. No game is perfect. But this is the first RPG I have played in years and I was pretty happy with it.

There are bugs, But I never ran into any. I created Characters up to lvls 60 and higher and now share them with my friends and we all play multiplayer together.

And it is only $39. Gees!

If u're into action games then it's good for you. If u're more into RP'ing a game that has tons of ways you can go then get Morrowind. I so far stand by Morrowind 100% in the fact that it's just an overall GREAT time. You can be the law abiding charismatic paladin or you can be the most evil of the evil assassin. I chose assassin myself to see if this game can let me play my character the way I want to and so far I have total free reign over my actions. I've already killed like 7 or 8 people and disposed of the bodies. Yea, a few were reported crimes but you can also pay to get u're criminal record cleared :D

So far I REALLY enjoy the game, and any RP fans should LUV this game :p

Morrowind is great, but so is DS in it's own way...

Guys,

I've been playing Morrowind for 4 days now and I love it, but it's really hard to compare DS with anything out there...

It's not really as arcade-like as Diablo2/LoD and it's certainly not as deep as BG2 or the upcoming Neverwinter Nights, but it's kind of like a NWN-lite :) The 'game' that is Dungeon Siege' is kinda boring...so what ? The DS game and SP/MP maps are just showcasing what the engine can do. It's the engine that holds so much promise.

I fully anticipate the modding community to get busy as soon as the editor is available. And that means LOTS of new games :D

We can all look forward to (perhaps) better stories, new artwork, adventures and fun with this engine and the mods-to-be-released. So even though the DS 'game' might not be worth much right now, the stuff to come should really be taken into consideration before we totally slam DS and turn completely away from it...I'll really only feel I got my money's worth if I play a DSengine-based game that wasn't included in the box ;)

Truly, DS is a game quite unlike Baldur's Gate or Torment. In fact, there were differences between BG and Torment that are worth noting.

Deep RPGs are my forte. However, DS is a good game. I'm letting a friend play it right now, and he's hooked. He's more of an action/real-time type of gamer, but DS, as it is out of the box, is a good game for those new to role-playing games. He's discovering what a mixed blessing that blasted pack mule is. He's having fun playing it.

Ideally, the perfect game would take the best elements of Dungeon Siege and the Baldur's Gate series and combine them into one coherent whole. NWN is being touted as such, but we shall see.

This is what I'll be looking for, as well. I'm not much of a modder myself (I just don't have the time to become one), but I do enjoy trying them out. I think I'm going to get The Darkest Day mod for BG2 once it's compatible with Throne of Bhaal. In the meantime, I'm playing IWD for the first time. I like it.

I think this is really the best thing for dundeogn siege and, honestly, its saving grace. i really was looking forward to it and that thinking lasted until i realized how linear it is. i think that the important thing about dungeon siege is that anyone who was unhappy about the lack of storyline or the lack of roleplayability will be able to fix that with the editor. this is the really innovative thing about dungeon siege. I know that as i went through the game i made mental notes about how I would be changing as much as I could. god knows the long boring walks need to be changed. yes it was pretty, but damn, those are some long boring walks with nothing to do at all without a respawn rate. but, again, i know that i will be looking forward to tomorrow's release of the editor as much, if not more, than the original release of the game. finally, there is an editor that everyone will be able to use, at least theoretically. and, finally, i can tailor the game to just exactly what will make me happy.
