Warning! Game does not work with s3 video cards

Post by AsenathWaite »

s3 video cards are pretty common, but I have two systems with two different s3 cards and neither is able to launch dungeon siege. The game starts and then immediately halts the system. I have tried different drivers, changed settings, etc. forget it. There is a hardware incompatability problem here. Microsoft has not acknowledged it, and I can find nothing on the s3 site in reference to this.

so if you have a s3 card, don't buy the game. It will sit on your shelf.

are you talking about like the Savage? those old s3 4 and 8 mb cards?
are they still around? WOW! do they even have any drivers compatible with post-DX 5? i'm not being sarcastic at all. just very curious.

i haven't heard anything about them, seen them on store shelves or at any of my online stores, either, in about 3 or 4 years.

is your card that old? i have my doubts that a 4 or 8 mb card could push any modern 3D game.

i ran a search online and can't find any recent offerings from them.

S3 video

You do need at least 16mb to run any newer 3d game. I went out and bought an ATI expert 128 for 65.00 and it has worked fine with any 3d game I have tried. A realitivly cheap solution. I also increasred my Ram from 128 to 376 wich helped a bunch.

actually, deacon, with DX 8.1, you need a minimum of 32 mb to push the games. i think Morrowind is the first of these to comply with the DX8.1 api, but quite a few of the new 3D's coming out will be making the same requirement.

and yes, 256mb RAM will be a big help also.

:D

....in Happy La La Land since she swapped out her ATI Radeon 7200 32 MB for a GeForce 4 ti 4600 128 MB card....

I'm running a 733MHz P3 (Via chipset, unfortunately :) ), nVidia TNT2 Viper V770 Ultra, 192MB RAM, with Windows XP. Dungeon Siege overall works close to perfectly, but I have found problems with newer games, including GTA3 and Morrowind. I guess it's time to upgrade to a GeForce 4 and add on another 256MB RAM :D

I'm running the following: 1.0GHz AMD athlon,..376mb SD Ram,..ATI expert 128 Video card,..40GB Ultra DMA HD,..with Windows ME. The game runs great. The only recent game I can't seem to run is Medal of Honor Allied Assault, but none of my buddies can run it either so I don't feel so bad. :D
