Can't get by Wesrin Cross

Hi all, I feel like a real dunce asking this, especially after hearing how easy this game is, but how do I get pass the giant spider guarding the passage? I've tried everything I can think of but the spider kills everyone rather quickly, and it's game over every time.

It probably depends on your party - with two melee fighters, one ranged fighter and a lot of healing (potions, spells) you should have no problems.
