Unique and set item drops?

Post by Krimmy »

Hello, I've a 86 lvl sorceress and for awhile now most of the drops for those types of items have been less than random, it seems that I get the same items over and over. Does anyone know how and which items the computer will drop at any given time? It's kind of fristrating to to get any of the Sigons set when I'm 86th lvl. The best Item I've ever found was Bartuc's Cut throat and I found 2 of them but that was a loooong time ago.

Not to mention my percentage to find magic items 400-500%

I also noticed that set item don't go my the class of the item found where as Unigues do, you can immediately see the quality of a unique drop by it's description before you ID it, set items aren't this way, wonder why that is..

hmm guess that's it

When you're level 86 i presume that you play online, maybe it's better to ask there in a room.
But as far ass I know items are random, but the higher level and the more MF you have the bigger the chance is to get a good item.
Also the tougher the enemy, the higher the chance for a better item is.

Mephisto is easy to kill, and usually drops good items, try some meph-runs.
But don't get you're hopes up for a granfather of buriza.
Also the coucil members can drop a SoJ sometimes (and that's always nice to have) (this is all on the toughest mode)
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

PS. A level 86 sorceres doesn't want the sigon set.
She wants the Tal-Rasha set or the Deciple set
(personally I prefer Deciple)
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

You can say that three times :) I have 3 parts to Tal Rasha I'm wearing it's just frustrating to see all these low lvl drops for my sorceress. :(

Actually I don't play on Battlenet just local with my brother.

Mephisto runs can be tough, my sorceress has completed the game on all difficulties and it seems I've bad luck when it comes to the Travincal bosses they invariabley have lightning enchanements, combine that with their ability to heal = long time to kill :)

And that's not even counting a triple shot lightning enhanced boss.... that = Death :)

They do have consistantly good drops though, maybe not high lvl set or uniqiues but good drops non the less.

Yesterdday I tried the Necro in act 5, got killed twice with his corpse explosion, he's too much trouble for little gain. I'm mostly concintrating on Act 5 easy areas in the hopes find some good stuff.

Just tonight I found Spellstell a exceptional unique axe, best item so far tonight.

cheers!

Just found the normal unique Iron Jang Bong (great name!)

But since I already have Wizardspike I've no use for it, can't give up that 75% resist all and 50% faster cast rate :)

Item drops are decided according to quite complex rules, but in brief:

You char lvl doesn't matter at all, it's the monster's lvl that is important. The highest lvl monsters are of course the boss monsters at Hell difficulty. Every item belongs to an item class, and every monster has a set range of item classes it can drop. So for instance, there are some items you will never ever get from Hell Mephisto, since only monsters of a higher lvl than Meph can drop them. Also, apart from act bosses, there are several unique monsters who are set to drop more classes than act bosses. For instance, Hell Mephisto and Diablo don't drop Armor or Weapon 87 or 90, which means none of them will ever drop Windforce or The Grandfather. Hell Baal can drop both of them since they are both belong to Weapon class 87, but he can't drop Armour or Weapon 90, which means he can't drop Griswold's redemption or Stormspire. Pindleskin (the act 5 zombie boss) or Lister (Baals last minion) are two of the few monsters who can drop everything.

About MF, if you have 100% MF, you have increased you chance of finding all types of magical items with 100%. However, the payoff for rare, set and unique items decreases stepwise after that, so if you have 300% MF you have 300% better chance of finding Magical items (blue), but only 250% better chance of finding rares, 242% better for set and 211% for uniques. And so on, with dimishing returns the more MF you have.

@Krimmy: 400-500% MF is quite good, try to go for the bosses, unique monsters and act bosses. Mephisto and Baal are good targets because they drop nicely and it's relatively easy to get to them - Diablo takes time to get to and you have to fight De Seis who is often worse than Diablo himself. Nihlatak (sp?), the necro in act 5 is not worth it, go for Pindleskin, Tresh Socket, Baals minions and other unique monsters instead.

Good luck! :)

Hey thanks for the info, you'd think the games other 2 main characters Mephisto and Diablo would be cleared to drop everything, they get no respect :)

Where in act 5 is Pindleskin? and is there a website that has a complete list of bosses that drop everything?

Thanks again!

@Krimmy:

Re: Diablo and Baal, yes, that's what one would think, but for some reason it is not so. They of course drop more items, there are still some items they can't drop.

Pindleskin is on the plateau you come to when you go through Anja's red portal, the plateau where the entrance to Nihlathaks(sp? again) Temple is.

Here is a link to a website that has very extensive information about MF strategy as well as game-playing and character building.

Couldn'ta said it better myself, CE. :) Oh, and that guide is the one I based my MF barb on, who quite frankly kicks Meph's ass from here to Harrogath :p
