There are so many good weapons in the game...both runewords and uniques and even some set items. For uniques, I think the following are the best:

For bowazon: Windforce all the way. Some people like upgraded Witchwildstring, but I think Windforce is still the outstanding bow.
For javazon: ethereal Titan's revenge

For Assasin: Bartuk's

For Sorc: The Oculus if you do MF:ing, otherwise maybe Eschuta's temper

For Necro: Death's web, I guess (I don't play necro)

For Paladin: Nord's tenderiser is very good

For Barb: The Grandfather

For Druid: Lots of people say Earthshifter (I don't play druid either)

Reaper's Toll is my favorite Polearm, 33% chance to cast Decrepify works wonders! My lvl 91 MF-sorc has a merc with an eth Reaper's, very nice :)

the best thing I found, and I won hell with it (difficulty, not location :) ) is todsfaelle flamme. it's got fire absorb, which, with max fire resistance, made every fire hit heal me.

Yes, Todesfalle is a nice sword, I have only tried it briefly but it seemed to be good.

Absorb really helps a lot, with 13 lightning absorb I never die from Glooms!

i dont think gull is worth saying its only redeeming quility is the 100% mf (magic find for newbs) it has -5 to mana thats not worth it in my opinion my chars need all the mana they have for their weapons. and its all depending on wut char style you like, wut char you like and wut weapon style that char uses.

True, but isn't it all about running around with your superpowered characters who can wreak havoc without remorse carrying around a...gull dagger? The name, man! The name! Er...the MF isn't too bad if you're a magic-user of some sort is it (since you have so much mana...); then again, I haven't played this game for a while now...sorry, ignore me--onwards!
I would undoubtedly prefer the former...or the latter.

best weapon

well i play classic d2 none x-pac so the best weaons i'd say would be;

gll dagger; sorcs; worth a great deal (newbs will pay alot for a gull)

an imbued lance (+280-350) damage

dont know what weapon really for classic seeing as i play more iwd2/bg2 now
 to die in battle is a great honor :p but to have your pockits pick by a kinder is a privelege

O no hes got a...? Gull dagger wuts he going to do poke at me with it. roflmao the only chars that really get a "good" use of gull are sorcs and summon necros. they are after all using the most mana.and my sorc find all sorts of gear with out it. You can get the same MF from Wealth armor. (wealth being a runeword with 100% mf and 300% gold find 15+dex and 2 or 5 mana after each kill)

Well we can also talk about merc weapons to right? Well for an A2 merc it would have to be a BOTD(breath of the dying for u newbs) and some items with life leech.

50% Chance To Cast Level 20 Poison Nova When You Kill An Enemy, Indestructible, +60% Increased Attack Speed, +350-400% Enhanced Damage (varies), +200% Damage To Undead, -25% Target Defense, +50 To Attack Rating, +50 To Attack Rating Against Undead,7% Mana Stolen Per Hit, 12-15% Life Stolen Per Hit (varies) Prevent Monster Heal, +30 To All Attributes, +1 To Light Radius, Requirements -20% well its harder to get then you would think newbs and dont think ill give the rune word besides its not that hard to find if you know where to look.

I like BOTD too, especially in ethereal items, but doesn't it need a crazy Zod rune?

BoTD is an immensly powerful weapon, I would say overpowered. Since it requires a Zod, it should be built in an ethereal weapon because eth weapons have more damage. Eth berserker axe is probably the optimal choice, but if you want a sword, a Colossus blade is great.

@Demortis: This forum is for everyone who is playing the game, new or old. I think it's unfair to say that it's "not that hard" to find the runes for BoTD. Sure, if you trade with duped runes, which there are tons of, it's easy, but if you want a legit BoTD you have to spend many hours looking. If you play in a clan or team and do lots of Hellforge rushes, if you spend hours every day doing Countess runs, kill Hephasto, clear Travincel, Chaos Sanctuary etc, etc 29472 times you will perhaps finally find all these runes, but remember that a legit Zod should not drop more than maybe 1-2 times a day in all games in the whole world. Most people in this forum don't have the time or motivation to play that much.

Yes i realize this all to well having to find all the runes for the items i want so i can help my clan even more. and i relize this forum is for those who are old and new to the game. And i am willing to help those who need help and i do it for free its a concept that i adopted when i joined my clan. and Zod drops more then 1-2 times a day in all games, its more like 3-4 times from what i have found out. and i try to get all my runes non-duped. but yes you are right not many people have the time or patciance to try and find zod. But i still think BOTD is a great weapon to use, it may be hard to get but its worth it at times. I perfer chaos with my assin and Plauge bearer with my rabies druid.

@Demortis: That's good to hear, I just wanted to point out that on this forum, there are few people who play in clans. Most of the questions I find here are from relatively new players who are playing only occationally.

I think it requires a special kind of patience (and some luck, of course) to find high runes and some of the very rare items. On the first 1.10 ladder I got really lucky and found a Ber the first week I played, but I know that I would never have the patience to do thousands of Pindle or Hephasto runs, or do the CS over and over again. I know a couple of guys who can sit for hours and hours and do runs, for instance one guy who levelled his Blizz sorc from 75-96 only by doing Pindle runs  Of course he found many great items while doing this!

BOTD is of course a great weapon, but it's out of reach for most players.

Surtur who started this poll originally asked for the best unique weapon, not runewords. Anyway, it would be fun to try out BoTD in a bow for my Strafezon and see how it compares to the WF. However, I don't think it will ever happen :D (Should I find a Zod I'd make it in an eth BA or CB first, and it's not very likely that I will ever find 2 Zod:s)
