You can probably play depending on what type of weather your having at the time. I know I played Warcraft3 online with my 56k a lot. It only lagged for like 15 seconds in the beginning of the game then it was fine, maybe it wont lag as much since there trying to make WoW be something that all modems can use.

I play DAoC on my 56kb modem, doesn't really lag mate, i guess it mostly depends on your'e computer instead of your'e connection speed.

I tried unreal tournament once with 56k and I was no able to play it normal. I don't think wow will really work with 56k. But you see some other have positive experience with 56k. You can only be sure if you try...

I heard blizzard say that WoW should be fine on 56k.
I kill two dwarves in the morning, I kill two dwarves at night. I kill two dwarves in the afternoon, and then I feel alright. I kill two dwarves in time of peace and two in time of war. I kill two dwarves before I kill two dwarves, and then I kill two more.
I may be bad, but I feel good.

It's all dependant on server, congestion and computer specs. IF your computer has the specs, you won't receive any lag (FPS lag) on your end.

When it comes to the connection, the 56k should be fine, once you connect, though you might be in for a slow connection time. After that, as long as there aren't any connection spikes, lag spikes, or poor bit transfer, you should probably be fine.

I am running of 56k and I think it will work. However, do you think DSL would be a lot better?

WoW works fine on a 56k modem. It's much more important to have 1GB of RAM at the moment.

It is "surprising" how little information is actually needed to send across the web for such games.
All you need to send is the position of players and mobs around you, the chat and the consequences of your action (killing a mob for instance) ....
that is a group of numbers and some text.
