I used to play only necr before but now that I have discovered how much fun it is to do the killing yourself I rarely play them anymore. They are also heavily dependent on skill items which I don't like as I don't spend loads of time mfing. The only really funny thing with necs is corpse explosion IMO and an assasin can get that one as well so...

I only play necros. my best is a lvl 58 with max bone spear, near max fire golem, near max bone spirit, near max sunmmon resistance, and near max golem skill.

He is my best character, he can take anyone, and he only needs his golem, and his barbarian hireling with an uniqe poison bastard sword, none of those pesky skeletons, or revives.

his name is Gumle, Slayer Gumle (but he is only on tc\ip so no battle.net for him)

@Asriel: Have you played in hell with him? As far as I know that kind of build is neraly useless in hell ass monsters to so much damage and have so many hitpoints that your bode spear and bone spirit will not affect them...

I took him to the very end of nightmare, but then i got tired of the game and haven't played it since. You're probablt right tought, but mid-game, he was a killer, nothing could stop him.

paladins and barbs are easy to beat the game with...druids are fun to use and amazons are wicked....as for necros....IMO they suck

Paladins are my personal favourite I tried Nec's, can't stand them at all. My buddy and I made a Patriarche many times with a Paladin, as for Hell mode with a Nec...well best of luck if you ever try it.

Necros can be very cool. I prepared my Necro so that minimum skills were used early on. I have beaten Hell thanks to a fire golem, bone spirit and poison nova. And of course a barbarian.

Hrm I always play with the difficultly multiplayer set to /players 8 and summoners like the Necromancer and Druid get the short end of the stick. In nightmare and hell I can't even hope to damage monsters fast enough to kill them.

Necromancers are ok but generally I'm a ballistic guy that can't stand around doing nothing, which is what necromancers do. Stand there waiting and cursing monsters until it's time to raise another and that bored me to no end.

Still before LOD and when the Necromancer was dumbed down I managed to beat hell mode with a necromancer first. ARGH! NOT MY CORPSE EXPLOSION AND SUMMON MONSTER!

~

Personally when it comes to LOD I prefer the melee types like the Barbarian, Paladin and Amazon. Though I have a few high level sorceress's for those times I like to slaughter.

Nah all the characters are good, I have one of each, all over lvl 80 and whatever mood I'm in dictates which one I use. The different classes require patience and skill to master, something some people don't have!

One good thing about playing with Necromancer-like classes is that it requires skill, rather than just clicking on monsters so they get hit.

As Macleod1701 said, different classes require patience. With the classes that focus on spell casting, you need to make sure you don't waste all the early skills on spells that become less effective.

ie. put only a couple on the first level and wait until you reach the end of that line of skills.

Yep paitence is a virtue....then again so is the ability to drink 10 pints without being sick and THEN playing as a necro from scratch! Now that would be hard!

Heya- Iv'e only just recently started playing a necro, it sounds like you guys know what the hell your doing, whereas i dont have a clue. i got him up to lvl 16, but i dont know what way to go with his skills

i was wondering if you could each shed some light onto my problems, from your own experiences, then i will be able to continue on building him up.

so far all i have is 3 skeletal mages, and 2 skeletons. Also a clay golem level 3. bone shield level 6. thats all. if you could help me, then id really appreciate your views on playing a necro.

thanks

It sounds like you've already started down the summoning necro path. They can be very good untwinked characters and also good mfers.

Skill should go something like this:

20 Skeleton mastery
20 Raise skeleton
20 corpse explosion
1 in all curses
1 Clay golem.
1 Skeleton mage
1+ in Revive

Best bet is to use a might merc as the skeletons will get the benefit of the aura. They are very safe chars to play right the way through hell.

The best kind of necromancer is the poison and bone type. Specialise in bone spirit and fire golem. Side spells are poison nova and some curse.

Probably too late now though.
