For pvp the top tier is probably:
WW BvC
Ghost WWsin
Bonemancer
Wind Druid

but each of these builds have weaknesses but BvC probably has the least so WWbarb > Bone Necro.

Poison Bone =/= top tier in my experience.

Summonmancer can be very difficult, but also easily beaten by the correct build. Generally they are only threatning with Enigma (and if the opponent doesn't have it).

The problem with a poison and bone necromancer is that even at top level the skills don't do enough damage. I remember my friend firing his level 20 bone Spirit fruitlessly on the cows in hell mode.

I'm going to need to check the tables but I'm pretty sure that most of the poison and bone skills have been changed with the newest patch.

~

I originally finished hell mode in Diablo 2 (no LOD) with a summoning type necromancer. Falling back on bonespirit when fighting certain bosses like Diablo since they're far too strong for minions.

Ah mine is completely different, he's a fairly strong curser but with the ability to raise a fairly good collection of skelies and a Fire golem that is very good. If that doesn't work he has Trang Oul's complete set so he fire bombs any thing thats too nasty wades in to the fray with a dagger if all else fails. So far beat Hell but it took a lot of effort and tactics.

Personally I don't enjoy playing Necro (I have tried both PB and Golemancer) but I love teaming up with a Necro. Even at low level, the curses make my Sorcs and Bowazons kill with Formula 1-speed :D

I've just been looking at the skill tables on Blizzard's site and I'm going to go out on a limb and say that a poison and bone necromancer has not chance in hell.

Bone Spirit at level 20 only does 350-450 odd damage, which is absolutely pitiful damage in nightmare now. My Paladin did somewhere around 3000-4000 fast attack speed damage and couldn't even kill a Blood Moor Zombie in Hell difficulty after the 1.10 patch.

Sorry Deadalready, but i have beaten Hell with a poison and bone necromancer. It was tough, but with the help of golems, mercenarys and curses, i did it. Nothing is without its challenge.

^ You could not be more incorrect :p .

Have you forgetten all about synergies? I deal almost 5K spirit damage IIRC without abusing the Marrowbug. Many people regard the Bonemancer as the single best pvp build currently.

EDIT: :( you beat me dj_venom.

Doesn't that make it a normal Necromancer? Not a Bonemancer? O_o

One point in Clay golem (and maybe mastery/resist) is enough. The main purpose of the clay golem is to slow and distract.

I play all types of chars and i am always trying to find a "new" build... Necros are awsome in PvM and Bonemancers are Great for pvp and pvm.. my summoner was all skellies with Poisin nov /lower res did rather well... then he died :( so i went with the Bonemancer and was very impressed.. although i DID abuse the marrowwalk's he was one of the most powerful/fast killers i have ever played.. then he died :( lol... i'm a Hard Core Addict!

Never could be bothered even attempting Marrowwalk, thought using whatever that pole arm is that shoots out bone spear 50% of the time was pretty good on a Necro

necros

I have played Diablo 2 on and off, and therefore tried all classes because i never bother to try to keep my chars alive with the expire date and all. I think necros were extremely potent durign the 10.9 era. but like it has been said many times b4, 1.10 is much harder. necromancer might b ez to suck bad, but if used correctly "extremely potent" but thats all in thepast, now its 1.10 :p

Necros were often regarded as not that powerful in 09, now in 1.10 they are among the best for pvp.

A necromance is potent when the player is potent. Necromancers just need strategy, especially playing against another player.

basically, ive just finished diablo and now trying to do nightmare and have found it more than a challenge....... (by the way did anyone find diablo easy to defeat in the normal mode) i know i did.
im level 27 almost 28. i know its low but i cant seem to gain exp very well

HEELLLLP!

Mephisto was harder for me. that lightning hurts like hell..lol

ok i have never played necro, but i think you should do some runs to lvl you necro some... when i started nightmare i was lvl 40.. but again i have LoD. i really recomend that you buy LoD. it makes the game much more fun.

is it possilbe to use two types of spell as a necro?
(E.G - an iron maiden curse backd up by a bone spear or spirit???)

I never got a manual when i bought D2 so i have no idea if there is hotkeys or triggers.
if its possible to do, i want to use a blood golem with iron maiden spell but back it up with a bone spear.
what do you think????

Also what weapon should i use, im usin rare repeating crossbow but im havin trouble killin stuff, should i get up close with a sword and shield.

if i get a socketd shield i can up all my resistances with diamonds to the max.
is that a good idea or not???

Yes, if you left click on the action button thing on the left (where it shows normal attack, probably) you can select Bone Spear/Bone Teeth/Bone Spirit/etc... offensive spells basically. Then you can use both left and right mouse buttons for spels.

An easier way, though, is when you left click on one of those buttons and you scroll over the current skills you have that pop up, you can press F1 - F8 (and optionally F10 - F12 if you edit the controls in the options menu) and it will set that skill as the F button you press. Then you can just call up that spell by pressing the button you set it as and cast spells much faster.

You can set hotkeys for both the Left Click and Right Click attacks too, if you prefer it that way.

Hope this helps! ;)
