Post by Scayde »

I have had several occasions lately of my best items disappearing from my body when I am killed in Baal runs...I know there are hacks which let the other players see what I am wearing..'I get a lot of comments on my char's equipment because I have some realy great stuff..I have gottem my body back to find a hole where my Ber was...my HotO missing...My ist Occy gone..and my Storm Shield gone...these were not replaced by 'pickups'..they were just MISSING...has anyone else encountered this?..I really tink my account is getting hacked by some rider on the peek sneak...

That sounds very odd. I have not heard of this before. Players sometimes loose items altogether when then die, or they may believe they loose items because the items pops in a strange way when they die, and there are items at other places than on your actual corpse, but having runes unsocked sounds very, very suspicious...

I am not very active as a player anymore, but I'll check if anyone else I know have heard of such a hack.

well i don't know too much about hacks but if you traded for the items that you've lost as opposed to finding them yourself... you may have been handed some "duped" items wich Bnet "deletes" somehow?

No CE...Im sorry if I was unclear..the runes were not unsocked..the entire item was missing from my inventory...there was just a space in my inventory where it had been when I got my body back..

Jo..this was not a case where I picked up something from one of the kids in a trade room..al of my items ae legit..I either find them, craft them, or purchase them from a reputable DF2 trade co. where in the items are guaranteed not to be duped...I usually play in private games with my clan..and this never happens in those games..it only happens in public games such as hell cows and baal runs...I read wherein this is also happening to other people to the point that one of the other DF2 forums I monitor have posted warnings that you should enmpty your inventory other than pots and scrolls before doing Baal runs...still..Battlenet is denying that this is happening and have taken no action that I know of.

Maybe lag caused it? I've heard I people losing items to lag, but never from dying. I'm pretty sure there isn't any D2hackit module that allows this yet. And AFAIK the rust storm is only activated from leaving a server. Who did you get your Ber from anyway?

Easy way to protect against it, create a new file on your desktop, copy and save your character files into the new folder before you go and play. That way if you die and loose stuff jut copy and paste your backup back into the save file folder and you get your stuff back. Doesn't help get the experience or money or any extra items you found back but at least you'll still have your origional kit.

if she's playing realms there is no cutting and pasting of characters. thats what the realms are for. to stop people from accessing their character through anything other than the diablo 2 program.

I've heard of a glitch called "Body Pop" which apparently causes items to dissappear from corpses if you haven't got the base attributes to equip them. If a shield needs 150 strength and you have 120 + (some item bonus) there's a chance that your gear could dissappear, or so I've heard.

This only happens apparently if you rely on your weapon and/or shield to boost your strength to the required levels, if you use armour, jewelery or other items you should have no problem.

Are you leaving multiple corpses from failed attempts to get your body back? I have read in other forums about people losing items after
1. dying
2. then making several unsuccessful attempts to get their body back.

They end up leaving alot of corpses in the game, one for each death. I am not certain about this, so verify it for yourself; but once you leave a set # of corpses around, if you leave and rejoin a game some of your corpses (and the stuff on them) does not carry over with you.

And btw, as far as purchasing items from a site; I strongly doubt there is any way to guarantee an item is not duped. Noone can verify whether an item that someone else has is or is not legit. Many of these trade sites supposedly buy items as well as sell them. So if a site purchases a dupe from someone, then sells it to you, neither you nor the site would know if it's duped or legit. All of these sites have some kind of disclaimer stating that you basicly have no recourse if something happens (like your item poofing). The sites do this to protect themselves because much of what they sell is not legit.

@Scayde: I have checked around now, and I cannot find any explanation for your items disappearing except for what people have already posted. I cannot exclude that there is some hack that does not exist or is extremely unusual on Europe, since I assume you play on US East or US West, but usually the same hacks turn up at all servers sooner or later, and since this is Non-Ladder, someone at Europe should at least have heard about it.

Unfortunately, I cannot exclude the possibility of the items being duped. Do you remember if the items that have disappeared were items you traded, or items you found yourself? I would say that unless you were present at the finding, or trade only with real-life friends, there is always a risk for duping also at the very reputable trading sites. I have myself been part of a trading community which successivly became infested with dupes although nobody wanted it to happen.

If the items that disappeared were dupes, it explains why they disappear only in public games and not in your private games: many duped items disappear when somebody else enters the game with the same dupe.

If you found these items yourself, or are 100% sure they were not dupes, lag and the multiple body problem as others have already suggested, are the most likely culprits I think. I personally know a guy who lost a Ber which he and his brother found themselves, probably due to lag. Sometimes when you become unsynchronised with the Bnet server, the server will turn back and overwrite recent events. If you died and did not have space for all your items in your inventory, your remaining corpse/corpses may disappear.

I suppose the only solution is to do what you already do - keep your inventory empty. As for Blizzard taking action against dupes, bots, hacks and other problems...we can just keep dreaming  :(

Doesn't the rust storm work by comparing your item ID's with everyone else's on the server when you leave the game? If this is non-ladder, at least you didn't lose anything too valuable.

Hi Guys..sorry to be so long getting back..I been busy remodling my bath..here is an update...last night , my bud that I play D2 with was in a game with two guys..he was doing a hell rush for them..they had the MH..and commented on his gear..His druid is outfitted VERY well...anyway..they asked him if he wanted to trade any of it..he took a look at what they had and told them no thanks..they then asked him if he wasn't sure he might just want to GIVE them the items..he laughed and told them no...he finished their Ancients rush and exited the game..logged off for dinner and when he logged back on, all of his top shelf armor and rare runes were gone..everything from each of his high lvl chars..EXCTEPT the items he stashed in the cube. His acct had been hacked..over 500.00 worth of rare gear, rings, ammi's and weapons..none of the crap was gone..only the best stuff..and off of every char he has..we were both sick over it..this has to be a hack...

the next day we saw a game room called 'Look at my Char now'..the room had a Pally and a Druid..in it showing off some 'new gear' I mssged Gauge and told him about it..as soon as he showed up in the room, they split..and the room crashed...So far BN is denying that this is even a remote possiblity..

Grrrrrr

Those sort of people need to be hunted down and two bricks clapped on their testicles very hard, (if they have them, might be women). I mean really what IS the point of doing something like that, in the end it is just a game so if they aren't actually going to play and search and trade then why the hell buy it or use it in the first place. Tell you what mate, if your ever on Bnet when I am and I have something you'd like, you can have it for free! I only have legit things though so hope thats ok. Grrr that's got me steaming mad now!

@Scayde: That's really sad what happened to your friend. I can't believe what people can do, it's only a game, what's the fun of just destroying the game for others?

Is your friend using any hacks himself, like MH? If so, his account can be hacked by trojans etc. If not - then this is simply a hack I have never heard about before, one that makes me even more convinced I will never again play in open games or help strangers with items and rushes.

What server are you on? At Europe, it is still considered impossible to steal items from other players like this.

If the Druid logged out, then when he logged back in the items were missing, it is almost definately a conventional account hack either through Trojans, keyloggers etc.

The closest I've seen to your problem is just a force trade hack, though I've heard conflicting reports that it requires you to have certain programs running.

Anyway, like C Elegans said, it should be impossible.
