Dissapointed in Blizzard
Dissapointed in Blizzard
Well I bought WoW tonight, but when i went to create an account and selected the pre-paid cards as payment method, then they wanted me to write down the code from the card, something which was okay IF I HAD BEEN FREAKING ABLE TO BUY A CARD, the card won't be possible to buy untill next month.
So what is this crap? The box clearly states that all you need to play WoW is the game and an internet connection, the first month is free. This is a clear violation of the commercial laws, since the box didn't mention anything about needing a card to registrate an account, nor have I read anywhere on the web that it would be needed. I don't own a credit card, since I am not old enough, and my dad are reluctant to let me use his on things like this. So do I really have to wait one freaking month to pay this game?
I am severly dissapointed in Blizzard, I stood in line yesterday to be able to get a copy of the game before they ran out, if I had known it would be like this, I would never had done so.
I am sorry for my bad mood, but I am so infuriated and dissapointed by this that I am lost for words. I had never expected anything like this from Blizzard
I truly hope they will make a public announcement about this soon and change it, as it is incredibly frustrating for us who don't own a credit card.
NB: It is also not possible to change payment methond after your initial sign up. So even if I had been able to use my dad's credit card, i would have to continue doing so even after the pre payd cards came out...

Well - my problem is that I can't create an account at all since the service is down.
Poor and respectless planning of Blizzard for sure, but of course I didn't expect differently because of the other launches they have had similar problems....
Lanuches are always problem filled, it is how they handle them that will set companies apart - although at the moment I'm not impressed, and joining the ranks of the disapointed.
Luckily - I have credit card - I'd hate to be stuck in the same problem with gamecards.

Well, know they have at least fixed part of the problem as Chibigman said, one can now change the billing system. But if they had done that in the beginning then I wouldn't be here posting while feeling cheated, no, I would be playing WoW, 'cos I came home from school early enough to create an account, and I could've borrowed my brothers CC...
They probably had similar problems in the US and Asia release, why didn't they anticipate that it would happen here as well, and take precautions?

Well - naturally rumors will fly, but the more persistant one is that they deliberately took down account creation to give servers an easier start instead of haveing lowlevel areas swamped.
However - I simply think that Blizzard or their billing company aren't terrible good at creating webservies
It is a mess up, but it was (is) the lack of information that irritated me the most.
Luckily now - I'm in the game.

Have I got a solution for you gentlefolks.
I am in the very same situation as you are. I went back to the store. Complained and then got told by the person who sold the game to me that I had to do the following:
On the form, where you pick your choice for billing, select a CREDIT CARD and enter 123 as your credit card number. No bill is sent and when you get your gamecard, just change the payment thingy to gamecard.
Have fun ya all.
Voilla, game regged. I'm currently playing and having a blast.
See ya guys in RuneTotem

A new wave of World of Warcraft boxes to hit European retail on April 15!
01/04/2005
Blizzard Entertainment announced today that an additional 250,000 standard box copies of World of Warcraft will be available in retail stores across Europe on 15th April. Additionally, new realms will be opened to match with the increasing number of players. You can read the complete media alert here .
Here you are Brynn
The payment problems are solved now that the pre-paid game cards have hit the shelves.
I am really pleased with the game (as you may have seen by my absence from this site ) There aren't any big problems with the game as far as I see, and Blizzard are doing everything they can to fix any problems that might occur.
Point of advice, don't visit the official forums, they are all full of 12-14 year old players who complain about ever little thing in the game and really give a bad first impression of the game...
btw: I won't spam this forum with guild invites, but if you are thinking of joining a friendly social alliance guild please PM me, no pressure though

Oh there is so much true in that, but it is fun to pick some of their posts apart
I'm much less nice there then I am here when I do post - or rather much more sarcastic, but I do have a strong aversion against stupidity of such a magnitude as is displayed on that forum.
It is a whine-fest, but granted, I was prepared for that, because it has been so in any MMOG I've played.
The more vocal users of official forums always seems to be either immature whiners/complainers in MMOGs.... it is almost like a rule.
Anyways - I'm less dissapointed in Blizzard now, then I was when game went live. But then again - I have my game, and am playing it as much as I have time to spare. It really is a casual players dream of a MMOG, when playing on the normal servers.

I have never posted in the Blizzard forums, and I probably won't either, if I have a problem with a quest or some other in-game problem, then I ask my guild for help, or try to figure the problem out myself, thottbot.com is also a solution
Since this was my first real MMORPG (except a free week of SWG which I hated) I wasn't prepared for all the whining in those games. But I must agree that is it fun to pick peoples ingame complaints away piece by piece

Yes that was the problem I had as well, I think you have to have bought a game card first when you are going to registrer your account. Don't worry, the game card will not kick in untill after a month, so you will get your free month anyway
If you want, then you can registrer with your credit card, and switch to game cards after account creation. That was how I circumvented(sp?) the problem, by using my brother's card.
I hope this helped

But that's outrageous. I just wanted to activate my Guest Pass - what if I don't have a credit card? Am I forced to buy a game card to play for ten days? This is ridiculous! (Anyway, even if I had one, I can't use it because there is no "Game card" option under Payment Methods... )
I have a credit card and of course I'm ready to pay the monthly fee and such, otherwise I wouldn't buy the game (which I decided for sure after a couple of hours playing ), but what if someone who doesn't have a credit card (OR is not willing to send its data via the internet) wants to play the ten days free trial...? This is crazy.
Btw, sorry for not being there on Sunday morning, Yeltsu! It took some time to create that account and when I was ready and wanted to finish the registration I got an error message and that went on for an hour, so I didn't get to play until the afternoon...
Great game, anyway. I met a bunch of Hungarian Knights, that was fun

Up the IRONS!
For people in that position - I'd advice to contact Blizzard directly. They likely have a means to bypass this, either by entering some code in the creditcard line or what not. There is no "real" validation of your carddetails untill they start billing you.But that's outrageous. I just wanted to activate my Guest Pass - what if I don't have a credit card?
