The mage. Summoning creatures to fight along his side?

Post by ajdaha »

That's what they're supposed to be able to do, when will it happen? And I'm not counting trinkets as viable options.
BTW: About fluff pets, does each have its own trinket or something? And how many can you activate at a time? Cause I don't want to waste trinket space, but I really want the robot bomb pet.
Oh, and what is the most damage a move can cause in the game? Is it a mage's pyroclast? With ignite, and having struck a crit due to combustion I would imagine that that could be the most powerful. That and 400+ to fire damage. Should amount to something like 3000 dp right?

The largest crit I've heard of is a 14k execute crit by a warrior. here is another crit by the same warrior. Crazy guy :)

But then, mages suck.
And about us summoning stuff, couldn't we summon a water elemental in one of the non-online warcraft games?

Mages do not in any way "suck".
They are amongst the highest dps classes in the game, and very very usefull on most dungeon raids.

They have low survivability which is offset by the damage they can do.

I do like mages. But the thing I fancied most about them, the huge damage power, is not so in WOW.
I mean, how can a swrod do more damage than a pyroblast?
That must be a pretty hard swrod, and a pretty strong warrior. How the hell?
That must be a pretty hard swrod, and a pretty strong warrior. How the hell?
That kind of crit would not be something that warriors get very often. It will never happen unlees the situation is rigged (as in the screenshot I linked). In PvE and PvP (non rigged) the warriors do about the same damage as a mage, the mage on the other hand can do AoE damage which greatly succeeds any class (maybe not warlock..), which makes them really good. Mages might not be as good at one time shots as a warrior or rogue but they can sustain a high dps and do damage to several enemies at once.

Ahuh.
Thanks. BTW I haven't got the game yet I'm getting it next week. I was just planning my character.
But this is a very important question for me, is it possible to wear two of the same rings or trinklets?

Some. There are trinkets and rings that are unique, which means you can only ever have one in your inventory. This is mostly quest rewards, so most that drops from mobs can be gotten twice.

You set no small goals. Many of those items have a below 1% droprate. Farming for all those items would take months of endless grinding of high level instances. It is not impossible, just takes some time :) g/l

I'll try to buy those that aren't bind on pick up.
Ps: I just got the game, but my computer sucks, so I'll either have to get a new PC or wait till my brother's PC becomes available.

It's true, the wizard hero from Warcraft III had the ability to summon a water elemental (for a limited duration). However, mages in WoW cannot do that although it's speculated that the mage class will get that ability when hero-classes are implemented.

Indeed, mages have many useful spells.. damage, crowd control and utility spells. I think the greatest issue of mages is that they solely depend on their spells (relatively low hit points and armour) and cannot heal therefore they have to be able to take out their opponents with heavy hitting spells.. with a bit of help of their crowd control spells. And the thing is that while mages don't get new spells melee classes do get new weapons and armour (the same means much less for mages and the other casters).

Warriors, for example, used to have medium dps with a lot of protection. Now (with the best equipment available) they can do higher dps than a mage and have a lot of armour (although spells negate armour).

Read it in the manual: mages were meant to do a lot of damage.. but this, their main assett, is where the mages are dropping. Not to mention the fact that there are trinkets which can dispel mages' crowd control.

Uhm, warriors even with almost the best equipment availible have no where near as good dps as mages. My friend has a mod that counts how much damage everyone does in a party, and in BRD the mage did about 40%. with a warlock at about 30% and the warror (which was using two weapons for more damage) did only about 15%, and me, the pally did 13% and the priest had about 1-2 % (since he was healing all the time)

The only one that comes near the mage in damage output is the shadow priest, the warlock, and maybe the rogue.

oh, and mages get equipment that improve their magics, just as warriors get new weapons. ;)

I don't know DPS, but if I start the fight with a combusted pyroblast with 400+ fire damage equipment, I'm pretty sure I can reach high numbers:

Pyroblast: 800 damage on average.
+400 (equipment)
= 1400
+ 1400/10 (for fire power talent)
= 1540
multiply by 2.1 for the critical hit and ignite talents
= 3080 + 154 = 3234 (can anyone top that?)

Of course, you'd have to get pyroblasty off first, which takes obscenely long time (6 sec) and after the anti-sheep trinket came, that might no be so easy as it looks ;)
