when you comlete Tal'Rasha set you get ( i think ) - 15% to enemy lightning and cold resist, and if you have some rings or charms that have something like that its no problem to play in hell. I can handle hell very well with sorc only V chapter is leattle hard and slow to advance
- i dont use cold or only fire sorc, i have all skills but fire is a little bit more advanced skill for bosses and alike.

Most PvM sorcerers choose a backup spell from another element (Frozen Orb and Firewall are the most common choices) and use that against PI's, and they make sure they've a very good merc to help them (most of them use Holy Freeze). If you're single-element, you should let a friend handle them.

Learn to micro your merc with teleport, and as stated above, most PvM have a low-investment secondary skill that is quite necessary. -Resist is very inefficient as -res over 100 is reduced to 1/3 IIRC (or is it only curses/aura's work and negative resist doesn't work?).

- to enemy resists does not affect immunity at all.
It is very effective against high resist monsters who are not immune though.

The Paladin's Aura Conviction and possibly the Necromancer's Amplify damage are the only skills capable of defeating Immunities. The older versions and incorrect skills of the Sorceress Cold Mastery used to break Ice Immunity as well.
My recommendation is to bulid a Lightning and Ice Sorceress since Fire Immune and Cold Immune are easily the most common immunities in the game.

Conviction, Amplify Damage and Lower Resistance can all break immunities, though they do it at 20% efficiency. When you cast Amplify Damage on a monster with 110% physical resistance, the resistance will be reduced to (110-(100/5)) = 90 PR. Any monster with > 119% physical resistance, > 113% poison resistance or > 129% elemental resistance is unbreakably immune.
