Need help with installing DirectX 9.0 (required for playing WoW)

Post by furmy »

I just bought WoW the other day and was SO psyched to play it after it took like an hour to install, but my happiness ceased when I got an error message in the middle of the DirectX 9.0 download: THE SOFTWARE YOU ARE INSTALLING HAS NOT PASSED WINDOWS LOGO TESTING TO VERIFY ITS COMPATIBILITY WITH WINDOWS XP. Thus, I could not finish the DX installation, meaning I could not play WoW. I tried doing the Windows Automatic Update thingey but everything it tries to install fails. ex: blah blah blah blah blah... failed! Please someone help me with this problem I need to play WoW! I already consulted microsoft customer service and when I asked for help with Direct X, they connected me to Direct TV customer service. and no, i don't have a strong accent...

any help would be greatly appreciated i will mail u a brownie if u help me!

Uh... I really have no idea but what if you ignored the "THE SOFTWARE YOU ARE INSTALLING HAS NOT PASSED WINDOWS LOGO TESTING TO VERIFY ITS COMPATIBILITY WITH WINDOWS XP" message... Just install it without MS approving of it...

This doesn't really fit this forum, even if it is in connection with "WoW", but anyways.....

What happens if you try to download and install DX9.0c directly , and not through windows update?
Usually - nothing should crash if you just "ignore" the message because it is not terrible important, however - I've never seen the message in connection with DX install.

there was no option to ignore the message - the only option i had was to hit OK and exit out of the installation. also, i'm not installing it through windows auto update, but that's what i need to use in order to install the updates that will allow me to install directX directly. unfortunately, for every update i try to install, all of them fail, including the update that allows windows to recognize DX9.0

sorry for this post i know it dosnt really belong in this forum but all the customer service i have tried has done diddly squat at best and im getting really ticked off about the whole thing - my account is already set up and im losing my free month.

sorry for the dp but i just solved my problem. just had to "update" the Windows Auto "Update" itself, and then everything on the program installed fine, allowing me to install directX9.0c directly. thanks for the concern guys!
